I need help!
I need to find out if the two alarm/keyless entry remotes that the dealer gives us operate on the same "code." I don't know if you guys are still holding the weekly meet tommorrow since it seems that there's also a BBQ the same day, and the other thread didn't confirm either way.
So, I would really appreciate it if anyone who has the following models stop by my home with the both stock both alarm remotes still intact and operational:
Legacy, Outback all models 1999-2004
Forester 2001-2004
Impreza 2002-2004
Hypothesis: The two alarm remotes provided with the car that operate the alarm may share the same code.
Testing: I'd like to try and program one of your remotes into my system and see if your other remote can also operate on my system even though it has not been programmed into the system.
If you'd like to help out, please PM me. I'd like to do this tommorrow.

If you have the same model of remotes it will work.
To program new remotes to a car it's just a simple pattern of opening doors and turning the key in the ignition to program a new remote.
That is until the new 05 outbacks and legacy's came out.

I guess it would help if I added a little bit of a background.
Last week, someone burglarized my home. Only a few items were taken, nothing extremely valuable cash-wise. However, the mother****er also took my extra key with the alarm remote. It was in a safe place, but the ******** tore our bedrooms apart. Anyways, I bought a new alarm remote and re-keyed the car (another pain in the ***, the only thing I needed the tech to do for me was rekey the ignition as I did everything else, but even that was screwed up). I reprogrammed the alarm to use the new remote, and "pushed" out the old codes.
Upon more pondering (actually, more like after a bit of rage and frustration had settled down), I'm thinking that I could have just reprogrammed the alarm to use just the remaining remote IF the two transmitters operated on different codes. I previously thought they operated on the same codes, hence, buying a new transmitter.
I just want to determine whether or not the two transmitters that are provided by the dealer/manufacturer when you buy the car operate on separate codes. If they do, I can reprogram the other transmitter without fear of the douchebag being able to use the stolen transmitter.

Well here is a quote from the 05 owners manual
If you lose a transmitter or want to purchase additional transmitters (up to four can be programmed) you should re-program all of your transmitters for security reasons.
To delete old transmitter codes, program four transmitter codes into the system. If you have only one current transmitter program it four times. If you have two current transmitters program each one twice.
Hope that helps (answering your question that once you delete the old transmitter code they won't work anymore)

Hey, thanks for the help, but that wasn't exactly the question I have. I've already deleted the old codes, and only the new one I bought is programmed to work with it.
However, I would like to program my remaining old transmitter, too, as a back-up. I just want to know if the two original transmitters have the same codes. If they do, then I can't used the old transmitter anymore because the other one has been stolen, probably so that they can use it to disarm the alarm and steal the car.
But, if they use different codes, I can use the remaining transmitter, again because it doesn't use the same code as the stolen one, so that the stolen will still be unprogrammed to the car.
It's just that no one seems to know for sure. I can guess that they use different codes since they can sell transmitters separately, as opposed to only in pairs. But, I would rather not take that chance. I called a few dealers and they wanted me to bring in the car so that they can reprogram my alarm (and charge me an arm and a leg for something I already did), but didn't quite answer my question whether or not they use the same code. If no one knows, that's fine, I just won't use the old transmitter ever again.
