Ya I'm not a fan of their in house stuff.

You used to be able to buy third party tuners and dishes. Sony had a bunch of options.

Also don't like that they don't have anything with TiVo brand DVR anymore. There are rumors that they might go back in the future.

Now they are getting away from the ownership and moving towards a lease type dealio. It's just part of the service. New box comes out, you can have it replaced.

You could use a stand alone Tivo like you have. You'd just be limited to one tuner recording.

Newer Series 3 SA TiVos can use two cable cards but then you need to have cable. yich!!.

And they're $$$$$

I was looking at the series two but it looks like it can only do one digital signal and one basic cable channel at a time, not two digital/sat signals. F that in the A.
