Was on chat support with MS for almost 30 mins...
I have a Win 7 Home Premium laptop (this is personal use, not work).
I want to format the HDD and reinstall the same version of Windows.
I go to MS site to download the ISO. I enter my product key, it throws an error. I talk to MS chat support and they tell me I need to talk to Dell to activate the reformatted OS.
I have to call Dell, since the laptop is so old they wont let me chat. I tell him I bought it from Best Buy like 6 years ago and im the only one whos owned it. He transfers ownership from BB to me. Then tells me the warranty is up, yea no ****.
Tells me that I need a warranty to have them reactivate it. Its $200 for "unlimited i ****ed up everything support", no. Its $120 for one time use. NO. I can buy a Win 7 product key for ~$80.
So stupid. Glad I havnt actually formatted my hard drive yet

So... do you want to just upgrade it to Win 7 Pro? I have a Dell Win7 Pro OEM disk we could use and I know you have keys
