From what i heard on the legacy forum, people had to take the underside off and put down some weather stripping along the intercooler to have it sealed up.

the part underneith the hood was designed to flow all the air straight into the IC, thats why it was a mistake to take off the engine cover. I may indeed lose a little air off to the sides, but I really don't think that it will be that noticable. There are somethings in the works right now to fix the problem with the seal. But we will see, all I know is that you guys are going to see one happy person rolling around, even though I will still drive like a granny.

Yeah, that seal circled is much smaller then the actual opening of the scoop. Remove that and add some weather stripping (or whatever) to create a new seal and give decent (but not optimal) airflow.
The harder trick will be making a splitter that can still flow some air over the turbo.
