If everything works out, next year I'll be living in Rancho and will be able to walk to work also.

Ah yes, the GAU-8A. Gotta love a jet designed around a gun. I don't think the A-10s will be going anywhere for at least a few more years. Of course, I'm required to test on A-10 material, as well as RQ-1/4 (Global Hawk) stuff, although I've never even worked on either. Yay for someone making decisions that shouldn't be making said decisions!

Go Green and qualify for 11B. Most rewarding job in the military.

I'd like to think that my job is as important as being the man on the ground. You guys wouldn't get the reconnaissance you need to do your job, if I didn't do mine. Planes from the Mothership (Beale) were tasked to do aerial damage assessment over Louisiana before and after the hurricanes. What we do directly effects you I wish I could discuss more, but that stuff is classified. It's so friggin' neat too, kind of scary at the same time.

Oh, and I don't think I'd get more job satisfaction out of being a grunt. Granted, I have very little job satisfaction, but that's not because I don't enjoy my job. I actually like fixing airplanes, it's just all the extra bull**** that goes along with it, that I don't like.

Doors will open? Yeah, if you like being a civilian doing the exact thing, or maybe a state trooper. I could go take my FAA Airframe & Powerplant certification tests, and go get a job at any commercial aviation firm. Of course, I don't plan on working on anything with wings after I get out.

My .02¢

I'm def. not saying one is more important than another AT ALL. Every person in the military supports someone else. As far as doors opening, if you want to do anything "secret squirrel" as it's called (CIA, FBI, DEA, etc...) infantry is a great way to start.

11B --> 11B Ranger Bat./Airborne/Light --> 18X --> CIA OP -->.........................

I've got tons of friends in the Air Force. I'm not trying to recruit anyone. Just saying.

I know. I'm planning to get out while I'm ahead though. I joined right out of High School, I need to go experience the real world. I considered Army, but I decided that turning wrenches was what I wanted to do. And of all the jobs that I could have chose, I decided to be a Crew Chief, the hardest working career field in the Air Force But at least I'm not a non-er, in an office somewhere, or god forbid, handing out basketballs at the gym.

I have nothing but respect for anyone who serves. That is, as long as they don't do something stupid enough to lose my respect.
