Our server tried swiping $10 from us. Our bill, with gratuity was $226.xx and there was 12 of us paying. I rounded it up to $19/person. $19 x 12 = $228. 10 for the 12 paid cash and 2 of us with card. I hand the server $190 in cash and the two cards saying to charge $19 to each and the cash will cover the rest. She goes, comes back with the slips for the two cards and a new receipt:
Server: "Here's the two cards for $19 each, but you're still short $6."
Me: "We're short? I don't think that that's right."
S: "Well, it was the two cards and $180 in cash. I counted it twice. It's short."
Me: "Sorry, but no. I gave you $190 in cash, plus the two cards is $228. I counted 5 $20s, 5 $10s, 4 $5s and 20 $1s which makes $190. Besides, even if it was $180 in cash, which it wasn't, and the two cards, that would be $218 making it $8 short."
S: (blank stare) "Uh.. I'll go count again."
At least 10 minutes goes by and she doesn't come back. Everyone is looking at me like, "Are we good..?" I look over at the bar and the server is making drinks.. not counting anything. I said we should just go. On our way out, I stop by the bar, "So, we good?" She giggles and bashfully says "Yes, I figured it out."
Nice try, *****. You still got a 20% tip for a lunch tab. Don't be greedy.
Half of a day left then I'm out!
