Hey camera guys
Ok so I am looking to get a digital SLR here soon.
I want to be at the bottom of the price range (LOL CHEAPSKATE LOL) so what sugestions can you give me ?
I was looking at the D50 as they are on sale at BestBuy plus I got another 12% off cupon, but I know DZ was giving me flack for that decision before. How bad is it really ?
thanks !

I gave you a little bit of crap because you were thinking of one of those picture taking boxes that starts with the letter "N". Honestly though, as long as you go Canon or that "N" brand, you really can't go wrong. Look in to the features, the Canons tend to have less noise at higher ISOs but the pictures from the "other guys" require less post processing because some is done by default in the camera (or at least that is how it was kinda, sorta but not really explained to me) and a wider range of available digital film speeds.
A few things I would suggest that you consider:
How does the camera feel in your hands?
this one is self explanitory.
How much maintenance are you willing to do to keep taking good pix?
The larger the sensor, the more likely you are to pick up sensor dust. My Mark II N has a larger sensor than my 20d and it requires more cleaning because of it. Canon's new Rebel XTi is about to be released - 10mp camera with ultrasonic sensor cleaning:

Does it have the features you want?
For example, the D50 has an ISO range of 200-1600, the XT and XTi have a range of 100-1600 at least, some other cameras like the 20d and the 1 series can shoot up to ISO 3200 and the 1 series can shot ISO 50 as well.
The D50 has spot metering, the lower endd Canon's don't - though I find that I rarely use spot metering on my Mark II N so this is less of an issue than I thought it was when I bought the new camera - I could really do without it.
The burst rate on the d50 is 2.5 frames per second as opposed to 3fps on the XTi.
The D50 has a flash synch speed as fast as 1/500th of a second, the mid grade Canons usually do 1/250th of a second (Same for the 1 series as well) and the Canon 5D and XTi synchs at 1/200th of a second.
Out of all of that, the most important things to me would be the ultrasonic sensor cleaning, the lower noise level at higher ISOs and the ability to shoot at ISO 100.
I buy most of my high dollar stuff from BH Photo (http://www.bhphotovideo.com) because it saves a ****load of money. If you have to have it locally, you can sometimes get Best Buy and other box stores to price match them but you still have to pay the sales tax.
