Help me pick a camera
i want to get us a camera that takes better and quicker pictures than our point-and-shoot cannon SD400. it's a good little camera, but it takes the picture like 5 seconds after you press the button. so, we're looking for a cheap SLR. i'm thinking nikon d40 mostly due to price.
IIRC, pozzi was talking about a camera that gives you the speed of an SLR without all the complex features and costs quite a bit less... that would probably be up my alley. i'm not a "camera guy" and really appreciate the ease of a point and shoot, just don't like the slow speed. price is very important.
oh, and if there are any gay canadians who work for major electronics stores that can hook a brutha up, let me know.

Nikon = homo's look who is recommending it...
get the Rebel XTi... it's got most of the STILL power of a 20d(entry level pro grade) and it lacks a LITTLE on the panning shots at a track, you can't go wrong with it. the Rebel will set you straight for months on month. Me personally haven't even been 1/19th of what the 20d is capabel of and it will be the same thing with the rebel but will do what pics you are looking for in the mean time

I was in the same boat as you 1 week ago. I bought the D40 and couldn't be happier. Very easy to use and the auto functions make it "point-and-shoot" like. I am just starting to use the other features the camara has. Circuit City has is on sale for $550 right now.

What's your budget?
I would stick with Canon because of the simple fact that they make all the parts in the camera. Nikon sources sensors from Sony and other parts from otehr manufacturers. Because of this, the internals on a Canon play nicer with each other and consequently you get better performance and a lot less high ISO noise.
