Question Headers?

Hey Guys I want to know your honest opinion on headers...

Are they really worth it, do they make significant gains, does it make the car a whole lot louder or not really?

What about brand and whether or not its EL or UEL? I have been looking at getting one for my sti but I want to see what everyone thinks of them before I make the purchase.

Also any recommendations?

Thanks for the help...

EL headers are good for ~20 - 30 points more in torque.
UEL headers are mostly a waste of time/money/effort.

You're going to hear that EL "take away that boxer rumble."
If anything, the exhaust tends to be quieter on EL than stock.

Most rub the space frame thingy on the Impreza chassis.
The price per whp/wtq gained is prohibitive; the $$ is better used on other mods.

My opinion is based on experience & science!

Perrin & APS.
The only issue that I have with APS is the proprietary up pipe.

While a very good product, the proprietary up pipe & gasket design can cause issues; lead time/availability on the gasket, etc.

really, I think that is what makes the uppipe so nice, it's a 3 flangs as you know. I really think that work best to stop leeks, I have had mine on for close to 5k and I have not had a issue with it.

I'm talking about when you have to remove your headers for whatever reason, and now you have to source that 3 bolt flange gasket.

Unless you plan in advance...and who really plans...you're screwed.

And the best way to stop leaks is not to re-use used gaskets.
