Gf's honda accord soon to be problem.
Story:
Changed her oil and air intake filter (aftermarket 3-4inch pipe from manifold holding a 3.5inch fitting) like 3 months ago and i made sure everything was virgin p**sy tight! So then today i decided to *pop* her hood and to my surprize, her air intake filter was laying on the engine bay, disconnected!!
My jaws litterally dropped. I can't believe i'm seeing this. I'm wondering within the time frame that it fell off, of how much dirt/particles flew in her engine. Then i reconnected the filter with a different fitting and started the engine. Everything was fine, vtachgodhonda went to redline annoyingly normal.
Questions:
1) What can happen and (2) why didn't it affect the performance/driveability at all?
2) Can honda's really take that much abuse of no filter?
Add on's:
I know some retardedly people (non professional drivers) who run turbo setups with no intake at all, for months also. Why does this bother me so much that they run without intake and without filters. Won't this affect the engine in any way?

I ran my car without any filter for over 20,000 miles and never had a problem. Of course it was on a 1974 Toyota with a twin side so that maybe a bit different so we are back to square one. Pics please.
