Thumbs down Ford to 2005 GT Owners: "DON'T DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE!!!"

Not even a ~$100,000 Ford is free from sucking ***.

Ford will quietly notify dealers who have 2005 GT models in their inventory that they may not drive, demonstrate or sell the vehicles until two recalls are performed. According to a Ford memo, representatives from Ford will contact GT owners individually and instruct them "not to drive their vehicle under any circumstances."

In the first of two recalls, Ford will inspect the fuel system of all GTs made from 13 October 2004 through 19 November 2004. Some of the Ford GTs may require the installation of a new fuel tank.

The second recall to be issued will be safety related due to defective suspension control arms. The safety recall will include all GTs made from JOB1 (30 June 2004) through 11 December 2004. According to a Ford memo, "Ford has identified a quality issue with the suspension control arms on the affected vehicles which may adversely affect vehicle handling in the event of a control arm fracture. In the event a customer does not seek service for the diminished handling concern, a crash potentially could occur." Replacement parts should be available to dealers by 01 February 2005.

According to sources, Ford may issue a future recall to replace the rear engine exterior cowl cover due to alleged cracking issues. A BlueOvalNews article published on 07 September 2004 alleged that the cylinder heads on the GT may be defective, however, no such defects have been reported.

These recalls may garner (either fairly or unfairly) more negative media attention toward Ford for several reasons. First, the GT is supposed to represent Ford's best build and quality efforts - this is Ford's total image product and, second; Ford (like all domestic brands) is already under immense scrutiny for their product quality.

Ford has manufactured 470 GTs from 30 June 2004 to 11 December 2004 at the Wixom, Michigan Special Vehicle Center.

Being in the QA field, this is a huge **** up and just one more reason why I'll never buy an American produced/designed vehicle.

Also, this means that owners, who have shelled out an *** load of money, can't drive said ****bucket until Feb 2005!

The real sad part is that Ford will not even make money on this car because it cost them 3x as much to produce 1 car.

and no other car made has had potentially dangerous defects?

i own a car that: 1) could leak gas when it's cold outside, 2) the cruise control could randomly fail causing a full throttle condition, 3) the seat could break at any time, and 4) had no functioning "P" position on the transmission.

Yeah but your car is also worth less than a quarter of the cost and your recalls didn't make SOA warn you not to drive the vehicle "under any circumstances".

I think the point is that if you're in the market for a GT you could easily afford Italian muscle.

Summary:
THE STARTER RING GEAR, WHICH IS ATTACHED TO THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WITH THREE MOUNTING SCREWS, COULD BECOME SEPARATED FROM THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. THIS POSSIBLE FAILURE COULD BE CAUSED BY (1) THE FRACTURE OF THE STARTER RING GEAR ITSELF AT THE MOUNTING HOLES DUE TO AN INCORRECT POSITIONING OF THE MOUNTING HOLES, OR (2) BY THE FAILURE OF THE MOUNTING SCREWS. IF EITHER OF THESE CONDITIONS WOULD OCCUR, THE RESULT WOULD BE FRAGMENTS OF THE STARTER RING GEAR BEING THROWN FROM THE CLUTCH AREA.

Consequence:
IF THESE FRAGMENTS CAME INTO CONTACT WITH THE VEHICLE'S TIRE, A PUNCTURE COULD OCCUR RESULTING IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.
Summary:
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, AN OIL LEAK IN THE HYDRAULIC STEERING DELIVERY PIPE FROM THE PUMP TO THE STEERING RACK MAY OCCUR WHICH COULD LEAD TO A GRADUAL REDUCTION OF THE ASSISTED STEERING FUNCTION.

Consequence:
SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
anyone care to guess what car these are from?

edit: i guess my point is that any car can have quality problems that require recalls, especially in their first year or two. picking on ford for that is like making fun of retarded kids...

I guess my point is that it's so common with Fords in nearly every one of their vehicles.
