Friggin Reed Ave. is cursed.
If you read yesterday's daily thread you know there was an accident near Reed. Actually there were two. The first was just after the overpass from 50 to 80 on the eastbound side of traffic. Someone crashed into the back of someone else and destroyed the entire front half of their car. Ambulance, fire, and CHP were in the median and the looky lou's were backing things up. The shock came when traffic didn't pick back up after we passed the mess. Instead we crawled all the way to the Reed exit where a red pickup was backed into the guardrail on the westbound side of the freeway and seriously banged up. The kicker was the sedan on the eastbound side of the freeway laying on it's roof with debirs everywhere (obviously it rolled a couple of times). I'm still not sure what happened to have wrecks on both sides of the freeway, but once we got past the accident all was good.
This morning, at 5:45AM traffic comes to a screeching halt just after W. El Camino on the westbound side of 80. We crawled all the way to Reed (again!) where only one of 3 lanes was open due to a massive accident. The accident must have occured a lot earlier because the Caltrans trucks were just removing the cones and opening the other two lanes as I drove by. All that remained were a few CHP, the news media, and a lot of flare ash and oil/water.
This damn section of the freeway must be cursed. I think it has something to do with the fact that dz works right off Reed. Either that or the CHP is staging these accidents for training (they are, coincidentally, right in front of the CHP academy).

Also this morning a pedestrian was hit and killed on the Reed offramp from WB 80. The offramp was closed until around 6am from what I heard...
