File under: Doesn't hurt to ask?

Check this out, this is a sponsorship request I received today. It's a bit of a long read but the beauty is in the details... (I have tried to hide the names)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quoted from an email:
My name is ##### ####### and I am E-Mailing you today to inquire about obtaining sponsorship for myself in the Australian Formula Ford Racing Series for the 2007 season. I'm currently a SIM racer who has been racing online successfully for 8 years; I have won 6 Online Championships (2 of them were in the same week), and 28 wins in the last 2 years in 6 different style cars (4 of the 28 was double back to back). Last year in the StatRacer Fleetpride Truck Series I won the title by a margin of 165 points, and the Napa Late Model Series by 5 points. Last year in the Fleetpride Pro Trucks my best qualifying effort in a points paying race was a pole (2 times), my worst qualifying effort in a points paying race was 5th (2 times), my best finish in a points paying race was 1st (4 times), worst finish in a points paying race was 4th (2 times). In the Fleetpride Pro Truck Series out of all the active drivers in 10 events, I lead the series in wins with 4, Top 5s with 10, Top 10s with 10, Avg Finishing Position with 2.82, Avg Starting Position with 2.91, and Avg Points earned with 173.09pts, and throughout the whole season I did not qualify or finish out of the top 5. Also a few months ago I won 2 titles in the MoonShine Racing League where in the MSRL Busch Series I won the championship by 41 points after finishing 2nd at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez road course in Mexico City, and I won the MSRL Cup Series title with a 154 point lead after winning and leading the most laps at the California Motor Speedway. Right now I have been in contact with +++ ++++ the owner of ++++++ Motorsports (a Australian Formula 3 team) and the owner is willing to run me in State Formula Ford Racing Series in 2007 to move to National Formula Ford then potentially to Formula 3.

What I am trying to achieve is to go professional, basically going with the angle "SIM racer goes pro". The Formula Ford series is a feeder series to series like F3, GP2, and A1GP, the cost for a entry in State Formula Ford yearly is AU$125,000, for State Formula Ford now that is for the full season witch covers expenses for the car and motor (which has to be imported from England/UK), as a main sponsor you have the car designed up in your companies colors with your logo prominently on the car, firesuits, and race trailer and you have use of the driver for sponsor related appearances from time to time, and if you do print ads you have the ability to use the car and driver as a tie in to the ads, now the costs don't cover damages, but that's where associate sponsors come in where they would cover other needs. Now granted yes that State Formula Ford doesn't get airtime across Australia or across the world, but F3 gets airtime across Australia and parts of Europe via Fox Sports, now +++++++ Motorsports runs 2 F3 cars and potentially 3 cars in the next year or two, so on your part along with the main State Formula Ford car that has the full sponsorship, for AU$35,000 per car you could have your logo as a associate sponsorship on the F3 cars so your covering both bases with the base State Formula Ford car and the F3 cars, so for AU$195,000 you would be able to sponsor a State Formula Ford car that's painted up to your companies colors with logos on the car, trailer, firesuit, and helmet, but also would have a nice sized logo (roughly 1-2feet or more in width) on 2-3 Formula 3 cars that get seen nation wide in Australia.

Like stated in the above paragraph, the Formula Ford Series world wide is a stepping stone for series like F3, GP2, and A1GP. But also a starting point for the careers of some of the top Formula 1 World Champions, that list includes names like Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt, Jody Schecter, Damon Hill, Mikka Hakkinen, and 7 time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, and the Australian Formula Ford series has been used by current Willams F1 #1 driver Mark Webber. The Australian Formula Ford Series has been also used as a stepping stone to Australian V8 Supercars, with drivers like Mark Larkham, Russell Ingall, Crag Lowndes, Steven Richards, Jason Bright, David Besnard, Garth Turner, and Greg Ritter. If you need any more information please contact me at the information listed below, thank you for your time. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Yes you are reading this email correctly; all of this guys experience is with VIDEO GAMES! I talked to him on the phone and it sounds like some pretty sophisticated games but VIDEO GAMES none the less. He is asking for cash sponsorships of AU$35,000 to $195,000 based on his record in virtual racing, no experience in a real race car!!

I guess it doesn't hurt to ask... I get a lot of sponsorship requests (please don't) but this one takes the cake!

Aw man, a simple "no" would have sufficed.

You didn't have to publicly humiliate me.

WOW...

That's like being a 'professional miniature golfer', and then joining the PGA to tee-off against Tiger Woods! :rotfl:

Yes, but he has some seat time in an actual racecar. IIRC, this kid has diddly-squat.
