F!@# Natomas...
Sign of the times?
Drove the new Hemi Magnum to the park at the Club Center in Natomas to play some ball. I do the normal ritual of tucking the key away behind a goal post and start to play with the local kids. They are all pretty ghetto (yes and this is a new neighborhood) but seemingly good guys. Anyway to make a long story short there is this other group of guys walking around, talking on cell phones not playing ball but kind of loitering around the court. I play until sunset and as everyone is clearing out I go to get my key and it is GONE... Luckily there is one guy there that has a truck and offers to get me a ride home so I can get my spare. My only hesitation is the "group" is now rolling 5 deep and they are sitting by the tennis courts talking in a huddle about 20 feet from my car. My fear was they had my key and when I left to get a spare or walk home they were going to get in my car and roll out. So I ask one of the younger kids, not in the big group, to watch the car and offer him $5. I ask him his name and get an immediate (So I assume honest) reply in case I need to give the cops someone to talk to.
We get in the guys truck and this guy rolls out at light speed, we turn a corner and he suggests we double back and watch the park to see if anyone comes up to the car. Nobody did, so we roared past and flew over to my house across Natomas Blvd. I dash inside, get my spare and we roll back to the park. Luckily the car was still there. I thanked the guy in the truck a million times and paid the younger kid 10 bucks (I didn't have a five) and got back in the magnum... As I left I heard a bunch of people in the big group yelling **** at me and making stupid hand gestures... Whatever man, this place sucks, this city is crime infested hell hole... GRrrr...

I don't know what's wrong with people these days. It's good you were able to get your car out of there without further problems. That lost key didn't have a remote fob attached did it?

Reprogram your remotes, now.
Good thing is that since you don't have plates, they can't really identify the car.
I'm sorry, man. This area is getting more shadiness quicker than I expected.

I have had a few minutes to think it over and I am not so mad anymore... If they had the key and wanted the car they had plenty of time to take it. Maybe they were trying to flag me down because one of them found it? Whatever, I will live to vent another day...

I'm glad your ride didn't get jacked and all (I love wagons) and like you said if they really had your keys and wanted your ride they would have taken it. Maybe that kid told them you thought they had your keys and that you were scared they were gonna take your car. Maybe that kinda pissed them off. It's always best to proceed on the side of caution though. Next time maybe you better carry a fanny-pack!

Sorry about what happened. Not to be a dick, however..
1. you were playing basketball at an outside court around ghetto punk looking kids.
so you
2. put your key in public view and out of your control
and you
3. are surprised something bad happened?
Even though it's uncomfortable to keep your keys and what not on you, never let your personal, important belongings out of your control.

Yo Sonic,
Yes I am suprised it happened. I probably came off sounding like the white guy scared of all the ethnic kids at the park but really, I feel pretty comfortable in that environment or I wouldn't be there. I play outdoor ball every spring and every summer and have since I was a teenager. It was just a few bad apples tonight thats all.
And you are right, from here out I am going to find a way to secure the key. Damn thing is huge though...

I have experience with securing large items.
You should see some of the servers we have to ship.
But seriously, yeah I wasn't trying to be a dick, just ever since I had some stuff stolen when I was younger, and I've been totally **** about my personal property.

I know it's not ghetto or nothing but there is no way my kid is gonna be subjected to the same type of place I had, to live in. and with the price you could sell ghetto houses for in the bay you could buy in a decent neaghborhood here in Sac. still.
