Anyhow, between slinging parts to technicians at work and my lunchbreak, I followed your advice and did some reasearch. All I can say is... WOW! I don't know "CJ" all that well, I *think* he may have helped me at the front counter once. I'm not going to take sides on this issue out of professional courtesy, but I can say with certainty that if I conducted myself on an Acura enthusiast forum in a similar manner and my manager caught on, I'd be looking for a new job.
For me the go-to guy at Maita Subaru is Joey the parts manager. When I started applying for jobs in the area prior to moving up here, he was one of the few people who actually sat down and had a talk with me about employment. This was just before they split-off from the Hyundai store, and he seemed to be interested in hiring me on, but the timing just wasn't right because he couldn't predict what his personnel situation would look like after the move. Despite that, we've been on good terms ever since, and the last time I went in on a slow-moving Monday, I sat down with him at the front counter and we started shooting the **** for about an hour. He's a good guy in my book.
From a parts counterman standpoint, I understand the importance of getting the complete V.I.N., as well as paint and interior trim codes. However, since the Impreza license plate mount in yesterday's picture is new for '07, and most manufacturer parts catalogs don't usually offer retrofit-compatibility information, I know I'm going to be on my own with this one. What I was told by someone at Subaru of Fairfield yesterday is that one part number applies to '02-'06 Imprezas, and the part number for the bracket I'm looking at is '07 only. That puts me in the same boat as the guys who come up to me at work and want to experiment with the looks of their Integras by mixing-and-matching parts between the various model years.
As for the picture and part number I'm interested in, I got the information here:http://www.subaru.com/shop/accessori...nd=accessories
By clicking on the title of the part, then right-clicking the picture to save it to the My Pictures folder in my PC, the SOA part number becomes the title of the picture (try it yourself; see what I did there?).

So I'm pretty confident that the application is correct, I just need to mock-up the bracket to my car with the license plate removed before I take it home with me from the dealer. BTW, thanks for looking out for me guys! I'll see some of youze out in Natomas on Saturday with plans for a driving tour I'd like to organize next month.
