Did you know..
On November 4, 1952, Kamchatka, USSR, was hit with a 9.0-magnitude earthquake that triggered a tsunami that caused major damage in Hawai'i, some 5500km away.
And..
On May 20, 1960, a tsunami, which decimated Hilo, Hawai'i, caused major damage on the west coast of California, and killed several people in the Philippines and Japan, was caused by a 9.5-magnitude earthquake whose epicenter was just off the coast of Chile.
The largest since record-keeping began in 1900.
