I don't believe everything I read in the papers, my guess is that his version of "talking" to the parents consisted of him spewing swear words and maybe some racial epithets loudly at the house where the parents lived, while not actually going over and knocking on the door. That was my experience when I was a kid and I hit golfballs into some guys yard. Meh, we're all entitled to our own feelings and opinions, I leave it at that.

Yet you bleieve that the old man shot the kid just for stepping on his grass?

Is the root of your objection here that violence of any kind was used to protect property or that the punishment does not fit the crime?

Yes, it's annoying when a neighbor tresspasses. But this old dude made the choice: what's more important, these blades of grass or that kid. I pick the grass. That's RETARDED. No other way about it.

Why should the punishment for attempting to do something and failing be any less severe than accomplishing the mission?

See that is what is wrong with society, we tend to reward failure which promotes stupidity... Anti-Darwinism suckls!

Of course I do believe that he shot the kid, but there are truths and untruths for what is reported and behind what is reported. Papers and news reporters report the facts as they see them, but there are always facts that lie underneath what is immediatly seen or heard by the reporters that they didn't see, something you can only see, hear, feel if you were there when it happened.

The root of my objection is that the punishment doesn't fit the crime, in fact there was no crime, but of course we don't know if he had NO TRESPASSING signs posted, or other warning signs posted to where he might have a legal bias to call it a crime and for his decision to shoot the kid.

Ok, then you'd be a criminal. And rightly so. It's not really about hating kids or not. It's about KILLING someone because they messed up your LAWN. Person vs. grass. Simple as that. If you'd take a human life over something as trivial and easy to replace as a lawn, I'm glad as hell I don't know you. I mean...I might get shot for spilling a beer or something.

Confirmed by police, now if you were this kid or even his parents would you not do anything in your power to stay off of this guy's property? My bet is that the kid was a punk *** and kept pushing the old man's buttons and he finally snapped. Well, the kid got what he was after. Is it fair and fitting, nope. But did the kid bring a world of hurt down on himself, his family and friends - you bet he did.

Of course there was a crime, the kid had been told to stay off of the grass. Hell the entire neighborhood knew how fanatical this guy was about his grass and he still tempted fate and pushed the old man's buttons. tresspasssing with or without a sign is a crime, so is the harassment the old man suffered - punishable by death, no it should not have been but it was a crime none the less.

So if you were to get home from work, go in the house and leave the front door unlocked - do you feel anyone that wants to come in is OK in doing so because you do not have a "no trespassing" sign on the door?

I did not say the old man was right in shooting the kid, but he had the right to expect his property to be left alone.

Hell I almost got arrested for assault 10 years ago when I caught a kid with the trunk of my car open trying to rip off my subs and amp. I snuck up on the kid and slammed the trunk on his hands, he was able to pull one of them out but the other was stuck until the cops got there. He got 4 broken fingers that day and tried to press assault charges on me and lost. It was all I could do to not beat the living crap out of him but I did nothing more than laugh until the cops got there 30 minutes later.

My point is that I will defend what is mine and will escalate the force used depending on the situation. Had he gotten his other hand free I would have knocked his *** out with the 4 cell maglight I kept in the car. Does that make me a criminal?
