Came home to some surprising news...

Funny story I had to share with you guys.

About a year back my 05 STI was at the shop being worked on. Unfortunately while at the shop someone decided to steal my rims and my front Brembo brake caliper. I filed a police report, filed an insurance claim, and had the parts replaced.

Fast forward a year, i have since sold the 05 STI and bought a 2007 Lotus Exige S. I actually just sold the Exige last Saturday and had started to look into purchasing a new 2011 STI. Completely forgetting about the 05 STI and the stolen parts.

Well i came home Saturday night from my family Christmas and retrieved my mail from the mail box to find a message from the Roseville Police Department. My first thought was, "What the hell how did i get a ticket? I havent even been to roseville lately!?" Well upon further inspecting the information i realize its from the Evidence Department. They were notifying me to come pick up my four rims, tires, and brake caliper!!! I couldnt believe it! Im going to try and pick up the items today. I have no doubt that the rims are going to be scratched and damaged to all hell but its more the fact that im getting them back that matters to me! What an awesome thing to happen during the holidays!

This must be a sign telling me to get a new STI! +1 for Roseville PD!

Will

The letter isnt old, just took RPD a year+ to catch the guy, prosecute, and return the property.

How does insurance handle people getting returned property? Are they gonna want their money back?

I would think there is some statute of limitation on the insurance side...otherwise maybe they'll just want the rims lol

Thanks for all the props guys! It is really nice when the justice system actually works. Im just wondering if ill happen to get any restitution back from the paperwork i filed.

There was also a brake caliper stolen but i didnt get that returned. Either someone owns a subaru at the police department that wanted one or it got lost in their evidence room. Maybe ill get a call in the future about it, who knows. Its all good though just glad i got the rims back.

I think i am going to mount some snow tires on them and use them for snowboarding trips. Or they are going to get mounted on my Kia Soul lol!

So looks like the a$$hole drove on the rims. He curbed two of them (light curbing that took the red lip off), there are a couple new chips in the red lip, probably from the being stacked, and there are some new surface scratches on the black portion of the rims. When the idiot stole them, they already had bald tires. The guy still used them and literally drove them through the metal mesh thats inside the tire.

Ill take some pictures of them tomorrow when its sunny and post them. I will also clean them up and post some after pictures.

I had contacted the insurance company about this exact matter right when it happened, just encase i did get the stuff back. They said that they do not require the items or the money back. They said thats why you pay insurance every month, it helps pay for the replacements or body work that you need when things like this come up.
