Most likely you are using a system DSN to connect to the database on the working computer. Duplicate that information, page by page on the new machines.

Go get em' snotch! (that is your new nickname btw)

That is a good thing... Hmm... Does the Database have an access front end or some other type of application that you use to connect to it? If it does, that front end app needs to be duplicated on the new machines.

you may need to set permissions on the server to allow that computer to access the drive.

we had a problem at the last place I worked and the server wouldn't share the drive because the new computer wasn't on the user list in the users...
go to the manage screen on the server drive and make sure to add the new computer name as a user.

So is this server for the SQL database also handling your routing/switching, IE assigning the IPs to clients on the network? If so, does it also have built in DNS, and is your new system configured to use that DNS database?

It sounds like you can ping the IP no sweat, but if you ping the hostname it doesn't work? Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and place the IP and hostname in the file called 'hosts'. You can edit the file through notepad or word pad and the file should have instructions in there on how to edit it.

After that, you should be able to ping the server by hostname.

Yeah and I like The Urban eats place too, so bring your Visa card! ;-) hehe just kidding.

In theory, if a machine is left at default settings and a DHCP server is in play and set up correctly, machines should be able to resolve each other by name whether it be DNS or WINS.
