It's funny that you mention BetaMax.
Remember, Sony was pushing BetaMax, and well, we all know how that panned out.
So, if Sony's pushing Blue Ray, be careful.....

Betamax was superior but VHS had better marketing.
Sony is in the Blu-Ray camp but it's not theirs alone.
I will be getting a PS3. It will have blu-ray. Maybe someday we'll have mixed players like the whole DVD plus/dash wars. now it doesn't matter. We just have both.

blu-ray sucks teh_ballz the fact that its propritory and doesnt like to be compatible with anything else (hence why i dont own anything sony anymore, my digital camera broke and got a kodak) and the fact that allegedly with the blu-ray technology in the PS3 if you were to put a burned dvd in there legit or not, it disables the entire drive which is HOMO....but ill still try to pre-order a PS3 in hopes of reselling it

Bluray because it sounds cooler. HD DVD is such a boring name. And takes so long to say. Its like a tongue twister. That shows what those Toshiba clowns know about marketing.

Read this for comparison info. I haven't read all of it yet to see if it's biased one way or the other.

These are some of the blueray players:
DELL, HP, Hitachi, LG-Electronics, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK, Thomson, 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney, Texas Instruments, Sun Microsystems, the game giants Electronic Arts, and Vivendi Universal Games
I'll be picking up an HD-DVD player when the price becomes reasonable. I'm planning to pick up a PS3 when the price settles, too, just in case blu-ray does still hold a good amount of the DVD market share.
