Awww....I bent my wookie..... :-(

Ok, so maybe its not my wookie, but there is some small damage to the car that I am receiving. I knew about it before hand, so I am not tripping, but I am just curious, in anyone's semi-professional opinion, will this pop back out easily? I am thinking, with proper application of a heat gun, and the bumper removed from the car, followed by some judicious force from the inside? This might result in the dent coming back out?

I'm sure it can be popped, but the shape won't return 100%. And the paint will crack at the creases. Good luck man.

Maybe you could check a local yard (there is a Subaru yard in Rancho) for a JBP (that is an '04 right?) bumper skin. Probably wouldn't cost too much and to truly fix that you'll have to replace the skin and repaint it anyway.

Correct, it is JBP. How much different from OBP?

Plastic is hard to reshape and a body shop will tell you to get a new bumper cover and paint. Cost will be from $775-900, or at least that is what to places quoted me when a guy hit me from behind. My damage was not as bad.

Well the prices he's quoting you are for a body shop to buy the bumper (retail = $$$), then prep it, then paint it and do all the blending and such with your rear fenders so it's spot on. A new car like that though, with another newish JBP in decent shape should be a close enough if not 'good-to-go' match. I seriously would check the local wrecking yards. It will likely run you few hundred, but nothing close to a full retail body shop job. Also, you can save up and wait for to do the replacement since that's only a cosmetic deal. When you take pics just don't take pics of the back .

And JBP vs OBP - JBP has gold flakes in it. OBP does not. You'll notice the difference.

Yeah, that isn't my picture taking there. That is from the mobile inspection service. According to the tracking number, it hasn't moved from New Jersey in a couple days now....probably at a transfer station or something....
T-7 days....

I will take loads of good pics, as soon as it gets here.

And thanks for the heads up on the yards, I will check into that...

OBP also has blue/green flakes in it but it's no where near as obvious as the gold flakes in the JBP.

Finding JBP in a wrecking yard will be a stroke of luck considering they only made that color for one year. You should also check some of the OEM parts websites that list all repair parts. They may be able to ship the bumper skin painted. Installation shouldn't be too tough.

Here's an example of one site: http://www.subaru-parts-dealer.com/

Here's a direct link to an 04 sedan rear bumper cover: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...04&catalogid=2

If that link didn't work, just go through the first link until you find the part you're looking for.

Thanks for the link on the OEM site, that doesn't seem too bad!

True, they only made it one year. But finding OBP for the 04-05 would require the same stroke of luck, didn't they change the 04-05 bumper with respect to how the taillights integrated? I think the only people with any good chance of finding certain things in a yard would be the 02-03, since they have two years to search within :-P

yes, the tailights are different on the '04-05 vs. the '02-03. you could possibly go with the older style lights as well if you got a killer deal on some junkyard parts, that would be a kind of unique look.
