Exclamation The Autobahn

For those that are car nuts, just tossing a heads up, the National Geographic channel will be showing a one hour documentary on the Autobahn. Show is called “Megastructures”. Was on earlier today and will be on again at 10 pm (sacramento time) tonight (Monday the 11th)

I saw it. I liked how that one guy built his own car from scratch just to drive it on the bahn.

I liked how they mentioned the automotive hierarchy (Porsche – Mercedes – BMW – Audi –VW) and that there is a respect for the better cars, so much that the lesser mortals will pull aside for the faster rides.

That and the small segment on RUF and how they upgrade Porsches

I lived in Germany for 5 years and the autobahn rocked!!! But everyone thinks you can go as fast as you want all the time and its not like that. Traffic is hell most of the time and there ARE speed limits on most parts. Technically you are only suppose to go 130kph and if you get in a accident going over that you are the one at fault. My father-in-law is a german cop and he has some crazy stories!!! The fastest I have been on the bahn is 145mph in my talon. It didn't even feel like I was going that fast. The one thing I couldn't get over was that you would be doing 120+ and someone in a mercedes station wagon would be 3 ft on your bumper with his left turn signal on waiting for you to get over. It was nuts!! You would thing that the fastest cars would be Porshes and Lambo's but most would be VW, Merc's, and Audi station wagons. They would own the road over there!!!
