anyone know how to fix an in-sink-erator?

guess someone dropped a shot glass down the drain last night. as i was cleaning up this morning, the drain clogged...so i turn on the disposal thing. you can imagine what happened next. so i cleaned out the glass and **** and now when i try and turn it on it just makes a groaning noise

yeah from my experience, if your disposal just sits there and makes that wierd noise, just replace the damn thing. they're cheap enough to where it's really not worth your time to mess with it a whole lot.

On the bottem of most disposals is a place to put in a allen wrench or hex key some have one taped to the side/ you turm it manualy a few times and then try flushing water again. I have had to un jam a few of these in my days..

I think you need to turn is clock wise and if it still won't move try the other way then cloack wise. the glass can't damage those types blades but metal can dental them up. As long as they was not smoke or any flams you should be ok.

If it just won't clean see if some can open it to clear it before going out and buying a new one as some can be open up to clean out .. just don't do it your self as theos blades are nice and sharp and can cut up bone as well as flesh.

good luck

Not to hijack this thread but is there anyway to remove that air gap on the sink? Everytime I run my dishwasher water shoots out from that valve which is on the sink.. is that normal?

No, that it not normal. The guy that did my house inspection was telling me about it but he didn't say how to fix it. Pull the silver top off and see if the plastic piece is tightened down.

+1.

Also for the airgap thing, running the disposal for a little bit seems to clear it up for me...

i hate those damn air gaps. why can't they just be built into the sinks so all you see are some vent slots near the top?
