Advice on Racing Seats
I'm thinking of upgrading the seats to racing seats in my '04 wagon for autocrossing and the occaisional track day. Found out they're pretty damn expensive for the name brands.
Couple of questions for the experienced among you.
Does it look awkward, or fail the aesthetics test, to just get one seat for the driver, while leaving the passenger one stock?
Can you install a 4 point harness in the stock "racing-look" seats that came with the car as an intermediate step?
Does anyone know if any of those e-bay knockoffs are any good? They seem awfully damn cheap.
Does anyone know of a place that sells the name brands at a good discount?
Should I peruse the ads for awhile because folks may get rid of seats on a semi-regular basis at a good price?
Anyone locally have some seats they're thinking of selling? (PM me with details and the price you're looking for).
As always, thanks all. You've taught me much in the couple of months I've followed the threads here.

bride are great seats but only if you're a skinny little punk...they're very narrow (except one of their styles that has less bolster on the sides for fatter american butts) but they're also very costy.
Recaros are prolly the best ergonomical wise...they actually have their engineers work w/ medical professionals to make sure the work w/ the body's shape/contours...but again they're also very expensive.
Sparcos are a nice, cheaper alternative but with similar build quailty.
those knockoffs are cheap, but i don't know how they would hold up upon impact...you may end up causing yourself more harm than good in the case of an accident.
and do not install 4/5/6 point harnesses unless you have a rollbar or full cage...
i stated it before on the helmet thread, but a OE 3 point is designed to let you slide to the side if the roof is caved in during a rollover...allowing your body to somewhat deflect and hopefully save you.
a 4/5/6 point secures your shoulder to the seat so in the case of a rollover, your body has no place to go and you may incure more severe neck injuries or even death from a broken neck because the head is forced one way but the body stays fastened to the seat.
they may hold you in the seat better at track events but you are running an incredible risk if you happen to put the down-side up.
if you get a rollbar or cage that prevents the roof from caving in...then a 4/5/6 point is def suggested.
