If offered first class for $250 per seat extra then take it.

Rent a jeep.

Do the Hanna drive. Pack something to eat for when you get there. Drive all the way around even if your rental contract says not to.

check out a helicopter tour.

The luau to see is "The old Lahaina Luau" You'll need reservations now. Second best is at the Hyatt and has FIRE.

If you can't rent a Jeep, rent any car you can. You'll need it to get around the island. Also, some snorkling(sp?) spots can be reached via car so you don't have to pay any one to take you there. Rent a snorkel kit!

Oh yea, for Hanna drive AWD is best, but Jeep can get you around better if you go all the way. The road is just twists and turns and very narrow. Watch for crazy locals on that road. Some drive huge old trucks on huge tires. They can run over you and not even notice. When I did the drive I had one almost run me over. Good thing I reacted fast because he didn't even look. The tires passed within inches of the driver window. Also, a word of caution. I put some scratches on right side mirror while hauling @$$ WRC style in one of the turns. Road narrowed on the turn very quickly, but thank god I pulled away with just a scratch or 2 on the mirror and slightly spooked wife. Just don't get sucked in too much and you'll be fine. And last one, use your horn on blind turns that turn into 1 line road.

well our package includes a car and we have a cert for Alamo to upgrade one class...
if we can at least get something that drives i'll take it all the way around...
as for other plans; we're gonna do a helicopter tour ($90/pp for 30 min ride along west coast), snorkel trip on a Catamaran to Molokiki(sp?) island, we're also renting snorkel gear for the week. may try sorkeling at Turtle City as well. we're staying at the north end of Kaanapali beach so black rock is suposed to be close by for daily sorkel activities...
I plan on renting a surf board and learning...i skate and snowboard, so it shouldn't be too hard to pick up. maybe rent some boogie boards to keep in the trunk where ever we go to just screw araound on.

other than that...our resort has a Luao we'll prolly hit...don't know if we'll dump $100/pp for the "best" one...i just want to eat some roast pig!

my parents have a friend who's lived on Maui for 25+ years...
he said to stop by for dinner and he'd give us all the inside tips & local spots.

We spent 2 weeks north of Kaanapali in Kahana hotel. Didn't see much waves there, but you can go south past Lahaina city (sp) to get to a spot where we saw lots of surfers. Also, Lagaina has a street that resembels Old Sac and there you'll find some of the best deals on snorkel trips and Luao (I saw some for 40/pp) and better price on t-shirts and some gifts as well the food joints. If you have Costco card, there is a Costco right by airport.
