The organizers use SM as the catch all that they tell modified or high performance cars to sign up for if they do not know their class when they show. As per my overhearing them say that to the AMG and that was part of the excuse they gave me in the email when I questioned the Lotus running in SM last year...
It did in last year's rulebook, but when discussing a couple things with Rob we determined they made a few changes this offseason. Having not reread the rules yet, I can't guarantee it still does or that it doesn't bump you to XP...which I hope it doesn't.
Also, this my just be my assumption, or conjecture, but one of the organizers buddies that is always helping organize the paddock and grid runs XP so they send the competition to SM. It's just been their catch all any year I've been out

They are SM legal. I haven't checked if they changed anything for them to be legal in SP, but I don't think they did.
They should at least get them in the correct SM class (SM/SSM/SMF).
We have a local class up here in Reno called Tuner which is for people that don't want to or don't fit into certain classes. It just doesn't get a pax factor, and have to run street tires. We also have a novice class for noobs before they jump into classing their cars if they don't want to.

Rounds 3 and 4 this weekend.
I'll be out there for 3 (afternoon ASP), but not for 4. Looks like the weather is going to be perfect partly sunny with highs in the mid 70s.
