It's interesting that both the '08 Evo and STi went with dual exhausts. They wouldn't be functionally better than a single exhaust, right?

Nope.

There's only one turbo. Splitting the exhaust right before the mufflers does nothing for performance, and depending on the routing might actually decrease hp.

Oh, and dual mufflers/tailpipes =/= dual exhaust.
