speeding ticket question

anyone know what I can expect to shell out
for doing 80 in a 55?
(drilled on I-70 when it reduces to 55 near the front range)

I have to go to court, ticket says 6 pts automatic...
is this true?
any way to get pts. reduced?

(the ticket has some info about paying within a certain amount
of time and getting pts taken off, but I have a feeling that's for
tickets being under 20 mph over the posted limit....)

???

any info/advice would be greatly appreciated

thanks!

you have to go to court. it mandatory. i got a 6 point ticket and had to go to court. i hear they are cracking down on the freeways in co btw. i read it in the paper. but depending on where you are goign to court, you will either appear before a judge and then the only option you have is to plead not guilty and plea bargin with the lawyer representing the city. or if its a big county court liek in boulder you automatically get to plea bargin with assistant district attorneys. thats the best way. where do you have to appear? ive had to go to court twice. one in both scenarios and gotten off with 2 points both times.

Usually if you show up and, more importantly, cooperate, they will reduce the fine/point amount. Show up early, dress smartly, don't whine, and plead your case. If you're not a complete ***, the Judge generally will be grateful that you aren't wasting his time and reduce it.

Thumbs down

Yea, Denver sucks. $240 for 20 over but they dropped points to three. Hopefully you weren't in construction because they will double that.

aggreed get a lawyer, also talk to the DA see if you can get a suspended sentence maby take a defencive driving class or something. If you are respectiful sometimes they will work with you on some things (Depending on your driving record). Also if the police officer dose not show up to testify agenst you chances are pritty good that it will get tossed out. Well atleast that is how it works down in Durango Co.

So i had my court date yesterday.

I considerd a lawyer, but that would have cost a nice chunck of change too I'm sure...
and my record is clean so I had tha going for me.

I ended up pleading guilty to a lesser charge,
so instead of $300/6pts,
I got $100/4 pts.

Better than I was expecting that's for sure.

I'm OK with the fine, but I really don't want to see what this
will do to my insurance.

Thanks for the advice/input everyone.

man, I wish I could have swung THAT deal....
I'm sure there's a fairly big difference
between 2 and 4 pts with insurance...

I asked the DA what I could do to work with them & reduce pts...
all she offered was what I got....

oh well
I'm just glad it's over (until I get my next premium anyways)
