New cars are exempt for 4 years unless a change in ownership occur. Normally, you must get a test every other year.

There is a new "Rapid-screen" program - basically you just drive by a truck twice in a 9 month period. A laser reads your emissions.

You could probably pass this type of a test with 1 high flow cat in your turbo-back exhaust.

As you approach the testing van, all you have to do is take your car out of gear, and coast right through the test area!!

What do you think? Would this work!?

If you look at the site all of the test locations are on a hill or on-ramp to a highway .. probally because they already thought of people trying this. But, depending on where they are on the ramp you might be able to gain enough speed before you pass them.

my friend passed emissions in Boulder with a race-modified BMW 325is- full 3" exhaust and high flow cat. damn obvious that it's not stock and they didnt' seem to care about how it looked, even though they popped the hood.

Has anyone actually tried to pass Colorado emmisions with just a single high flow cat? I really want to install a turbo back with one high flow and a catless uppipe so I can run an accessport at stage 2. This is not a problem as I am living in Tennessee right now so I do not have to get emmisions testing done, however I am moving back to Denver after my time with the 101st is up. Thanks guys.

Where is your Home of Record? Is it possible for you to use your HOR for your plates? That is what I do. I have MN plates on my car, and will always have MN plates on my car. As long as I keep MN as my HOR, then I can renew there. Since I go home about every couple of months, it works out great. I just stop by the County DMV and renew. BTW, Colorado registration fees are HIGH. I have vanity plates in MN ($100 on top of registration fees) and my rates are still lower in MN than Colorado.

If it works out for you, you may want to look into it.

BTW: If you are coming out to Fort Carson and end up in 3d ACR, look around 1st Squadron. If you see a blue 02 wagon with ETCHY on the plates, you've found my car.

No not comming out to Carson, I'd love to, but I am probably going to ETS. I've already done 15 months total in the sand box and I'm ready to call it quits. Whats your MOS Etchy? 19 series? I am a 13F (Fire Support Specialist) myself, with the 1/320FA 101st ABN right now.

My HOR is in Morrison, CO so the HOR idea is out. It's a good idea though. I would love to keep it registered in TN (no emmisions laws) but it's not going to happen. Maybe the best thing to do is keep my stock DP and 3rd pipe handy and switch from Stage 2 back to stock for emmisions then put it back on after. Probably going to be a PITA but not that bad. I am curious if there would be a way to go to Cobb stage 2.5 and remain emmisions legal.

I was a 98G (Linguist, Korean, 1 ea) and just changed over to 19A. There was a 13F in my class at Knox, and I used to ride the bird in Korea with the FISTers. Looks like I'm off to the sandbox around March-ish, and if things stay the way they are, every other year after that. :(.

As for the Cobb... you might think about the accessport and de-tune your car before inspection back to stock specs. I've swapped the factory exhaust for my TBE a few times, and although it is a PITA, it works. I don't know how the inspection system works, but if possible, give it a try with your current setup and see if you pass. My guess is that if you are outside of major metro areas they may not have AWD capability. Just a guess, though.
