My understanding of PAX is that is designed to take the car out of the equation to compare drivers. As such, it's a good way to benchrace cars from different classes, but...
PAX assumes that a national level driver is driving a fully optimized vehicle for the class. If the Type R's or TT's or BMW 330's are winning in DS, then PAX is calculated based on their car and it's cabilities, not the WRX. Same thing goes for STX and it's various competing models. It's kind of a conglomerated rating.
That difference of .003 in the PAX equates to about 2 tenths of a second in a 60 second course. That tells me that whether STX beats DS or vice versa is more likely to be determined by the many other factors (driver, car prep, car setup, course dependent things) than it is by base car capability.
