just like that

any thoughts?

i called all the local muffler shops and nobody has 4.5inch piping (my muffler outlet is 4.5")

any tips?

thanks,
Theo

VRT MBasile 02-19-2008 09:32 PM

yeah, laguna seca now has mobile mics on the INSIDE of the track, meaning turning the exhaust output to the inside of the track might not help you. I thought I had posted that in the other thread

Superglue WRX 02-19-2008 09:43 PM

Do silencers really affect performance that much?

theo79 02-19-2008 09:46 PM

you did.

but i can't get my hands on a quieter exhaust before then.

so i figure i will give this a shot.

silencers don't really affect performance i don't think.

i am bringing one and using it as a last resort because i absolutely HATE the way they sound.

im guna try it this way first and hope they don't black flag me =)

flatline 02-19-2008 09:47 PM

your wing is pure sex!!!!

i would kill for that wing on my car =)

if you ever want to sell it, let me know

VRT MBasile 02-19-2008 09:47 PM

put the silencer in (if you have one, or can borrow one) and then get on the freeway and see how it performs

flatline 02-19-2008 09:47 PM

oh, nevermind, i cant read worth a crap

theo79 02-19-2008 09:58 PM

lol ill sell it to ya

but i gotta steal it off that guys car first hahaha jk

after thinking about it more..and remember i have a catted 3"dp with a high flow cat i might do that instead.....BUT

im getting a 100 octane tune and id have to get the tune with the cat on...but what about when i take it off for other tracks like thunderhill?

wrxisthebest 02-19-2008 10:10 PM

i say silencer it!

Can I ask why a track would have a sound decibel limit?? I have never understood that.. I have never heard an exhaust that was so loud it shouldn't be aloud on a track.. well at least on car's that people daily drive.

houses surrounding it. I've lived miles and miles away majority of my life, but on big race event days I can hear the drone of the cars (fainly, and I don't mind it) but some rich idiots decided to build their houses right up against the track. When people with money complain, people wanting money listen. Theres also lower income housing closer than I have lived that don't want to be disturbed either

the people that live near that track are whiners. they only allow the track to make mondo noise so many days out of the year.

its not x number of days out of the year, the big events just pre-pay the fines

honestly, the loudest thing I hear is the christian "rock" festival :der:

call performance muffler in fremont. the guy there, i think his name is randy, does custom fab and welding stuff. he might have 4.5 inch piping. i got my 3" flange welded there and he has great skills. plus the guys next door have a bunch of 510s and the owner drives a nice yellow bugeye.

lol... the yellow bugeye is Clayton's, a customer of troy's. (thats the guy that owns the 510 shop) Randy does do great work, but unfortunately he isn't there anymore. The new guys name is chris. He is good too,m but not as good as randy was, and he can be a bit flakey. So plan ahead.

gmodc7 02-20-2008 01:53 AM

^^^sorry bout that, yea i was there, kinda head in the clouds, but the guy chris came over and was talkin to me for a while, just forgot who he was... randy was there 3 weeks ago when i was there... ???

krzyxrevver12 02-20-2008 02:00 AM

i thought most people had a turn down towards the pavement for laguna? eh..

theo79 02-20-2008 02:17 AM

any ideas on what material to use?

i gotta keep my options open! lol

omygata 02-20-2008 08:00 AM

Man, that's weak! How long has Laguna been there? Were most of the houses built before or after the track? Same thing happened with Altamont and now there are always protests against events there.

midnitewrx 02-20-2008 08:13 AM

i say youll be straight prob dude... i live out here an have heard some REALLY loud cars still passs... im gonna come out on the 28th on my lunch and check ya and the other cars out. are you comin down to the marina autox this weekend??? we can see how loud ya are ???

its been like this for as far as i can remember... sucks.. its only for open track days and schools do the sound rules apply... when its full race weekends big time events its balls to the wall.... i live like a good 10+ miles away, and can hear em hecker good. love it

VRT MBasile 02-20-2008 08:18 AM

no, they are pretty new.

Heres something to put it in perspective. The houses are giant probably like 5 bedroom houses. I saw a for sale listing for there that was almost $900k, and that was just for the lot with a pre-approved house plan

Now, there were other houses in Seaside, Toro Park, Corral de Tierra and possibly Marina that were there before the track went in that can hear it on big event days, but its these idiots that built their houses right next to the track that have complained about people that cheat the mic stations with redirected exhaust outputs

wimprezax06 02-20-2008 09:39 AM

point the exhaust UP, make it like the AMS evo but point straight UP

ucbsti 02-20-2008 09:44 AM

unless you are a in a time trials event, you lap times wont really suffer if you simply lift goin up the hill past sound

samething with Reid Hillview airport in san jose, many people want to sut it down because planes are loud.... hew the airport was there long before you moved there or built your house there, why do you think you got you house for such a deal

yeah, thats sad. Kinda like the jerk next to altamont raceway. The track was open when he bought his land, then it was for sale. He didnt buy the track, then when someone dumped 3mil into it to make it good again, he now complains about the noise and said he would make it his goal to have it closed.

and in Fremont where they are going to build the new stadium. There used to be a race track and a glider airport there. both were shut down due to noise. like a stadium is going to be any quieter.
:monkey:

Ballz 02-20-2008 02:05 PM

Theo, that right angle thing is basically a 4 1/2" heater duct part that you can buy at any Home Depot for about $5.
Just make a 1" slit in it and use a 4 1/2" hose clamp to hold it on..

rau 02-20-2008 02:11 PM

exaust redirection FTL..... just lift past the mic....decibel restriction FTMFL.....

blue blurr 02-20-2008 02:21 PM

When did Laguna put sound meters on the inside of the track? The only manned station is the building on drivers right going up the hill towards turn 6.

slow04wrx 02-20-2008 03:14 PM

I just don't understand it. lemans cars brakes are like as loud as our cars. wtf mate......what if we had a v8 with flowing exhaust? we'd really be fooked.

I think its been a while now, not such a big deal with 1600cc of power behind us :P

Theo dont you have a borla hush? That should be under the, what is it 90 db limit?

theo79 02-20-2008 04:33 PM

no morgan has the borla hush

i have a catless apexi gt spec exhaust lol

thanks ballz for the input on what to use!

ldivinag 02-20-2008 05:38 PM

what's dB limit at that place?

and what has yours been measured to?

STi4WRC 02-20-2008 06:34 PM

You have a 4 1/2 inch pipe? If it was 3 1/2 i would have exactly what you need. I ended up going with a diesel exhaust turn down tip. Looks great and clamps right up to the Cobb exhaust. I took the tip not knowing if I even needed it, just in case. I have a Cobb TBE with a catted downpipe and only had an 88 db reading without the tip. For a lot of people it is actually the intake noise that is to loud. Hope you have a great day anyhow. Which day are you going?

theo79 02-20-2008 09:14 PM

im going thursday of next week.
i decided to not use the catted dp because of the hassle (going to have to get 2 100 octane tunes)
im going to ghetto fab a 90 degree bend using the stuff ballz mentioned earlier. and im also going to bring the silencer. i talked to doug, the guy who's setting it all up and he said that of all the 20+ some events he's had there nobody has complained about the noise. hopefully this will hold true for when i go lol

theo79 02-20-2008 09:15 PM
what's dB limit at that place?

92db's at 50ft. i don't know what mine is..but i highly doubt it's that quiet.
unless you are a in a time trials event, you lap times wont really suffer if you simply lift goin up the hill past sound
ok, I'll say it again.

THEY NOW HAVE A MOBILE MIC ON THE INSIDE OF THE TRACK.

this means two things
1) you don't know where it'll be
2) redirecting the exhaust to the right will point directly towards it

theo79 02-20-2008 10:06 PM

i emailed doug at trackmasters racing...the guy organizing the event
here's his response

The mobile monitoring is only used if they suspect that someone is exceeding the limits by a mile and is going very slowly (and quietly) past the sound booth. Then they get on it the rest of the track! I've never had them go mobile at any of my 20 or so events there, so it's not likely they will.
