I saw this as well. There is a note in the thread at imprezawrxsti that technically until Fastrack comes out the STi is in HS (Impreza NOC, Sedan Turbo NOC, and/or Subaru NOC). I can almost hear the screams and see the fists if I tried it.
I'll assume AS->ESP->SM, just like the Evo, and actually am planning on running ESP (thinking about seats, springs, rear swaybar, wider wheels, exhaust, ECU w/out boost control -- whether I do any or not is still up in the air, but I will have the option without worrying about my class).
If they bump the STi out of ESP and into BSP or ASP, I'll probably just whine a little and go to SM instead. Better PAX and lets me use all the ECUs with turbo mods that are hard to escape anyway. Harder competition in my region though, and much harder to be competitive against national-level cars.
