zero cons in my opinion

i auto-x, when i have the time, which isnt too often. it costs me $20 a race with scca membership, $25 without. other than that it is pretty much free, minus the life of your tires/engine/suspension. engine suspension arent a biggie, tires can get eaten in a season though

Of course, that's until you become addicted.

I auto-x my car and rally-x someone elses car when shedule permits.

Rally-x, depending on the course/surface, can be brutal on a suspension and anything else on the car. There have been some rally-xes that have gotten deep ruts that if you don't have something like a skid pate/under body armor, then you run the risk of denting/wrecking your oil pan\ (not to mention front bumper scraping) Some courses have been smooth hard pack, and no risk was involved. SO it depends. With the deep ruts, your suspension and transmission will also being doing more work. Also, most rally-xes are lower speed than auto-x, which means you may have to row between 1st and 2nd gears on courses.

Auto-x is in most instances, better on the car. Usually it's a 1-2 shift and leave it in second. speeds are generally higher than rally-x and it will wear your tires faster. It's fine on the engine, and it's not as much of a shock to the car compared to the jarring you get in rally-x.

If you're just starting out and you have a totally stock car, give them both a try. No harm in it. Expereince it for yourself and see what you may like.

I like them both, but my car is set up for auto-x and would not work well on a rally-x course at all. (too low, tires wrong, suspension too stiff)
