Subaru of America Returns to USTCC for 2003
Martinez, CA: Sheehan Motor Racing is proud to announce their Subaru WRX entry in the 2003 U.S. Touring Car Championship with primary support from Subaru of America for the third consecutive year.
The Subaru WRX has been a serious contender for the USTCC championship title in 2001 and 2002, finishing in 2nd place overall in both seasons. The WRX racked up an impressive three race wins, three 2nd place finishes and a third place podium spot in 2002, finishing on the podium in every race of the season.
The 2003 USTCC season promises to be an exciting one with several new manufacturers entering the championship and a schedule full of top level race tracks across the country. The series will be returning to some favorites, such as Sears Point, Portland International Raceway and Laguna Seca, as well as hitting a new venue at Lowes Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
Sheehan Motor Racing is busily gearing up for the challenging schedule. “We are making some big changes to the structure of our team and the preparation of our Subaru WRX racecar,” said Gary Sheehan, the team’s manager. “This is going to be an exciting year for us and we can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been up to. One thing that hasn’t changed is Subaru of America’s continued support of our racing program. We are very fortunate to have the assistance of an automobile manufacturer that is so dedicated to proving their products through motorsports.”
“The Subaru Impreza WRX was developed through competition and is ideally suited to the USTCC, combining a low center of gravity with all-wheel drive grip. Subaru of America is proud support Sheehan Motor Racing in its quest for the 2003 U.S. Touring Car Championship,” said Subaru spokesperson, Rob Moran.
The first race of the 2003 U.S. Touring Car Championship is rapidly approaching. The series’ teams will grid up for battle to start the season at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 23rd and 24th. Sheehan Motor Racing had great success in the two Las Vegas races last year with a race win and a 2nd place finish. The team is looking forward to beginning the year at a track that has treated them so well.
