2008 F1 specs

http://www.fia.com/mediacentre/Press...160605-02.html

So far what I've read...

Spec ECU
Spec gearboxes
Mechanical clutches
V8 engines
Reduced downforce, increased width
Slicks re-allowed
Single tire manufacturer
Center of Gravity will now be specified
Spec brakes
pit-to-car telemetry prohibited
driver must be able to start car on his own
no spare cars (only 2 cars at the track ever)

potentially more teams with common manufacturers, and manufacturers points may change to team points.

Part of me has a sick feeling, as this is really the only season of F1 I've really gotten into watching. On the other hand, it looks like the aero rules are to try to get drivers to start passing more. I guess we'll see what happens

it will not slow them down much...look at this year they only got one set of tires for qualifying and race and they are setting track records at every race. they will find a way to make those v8's every bit as fast as the v10's of today. 06 will be the first year of v8's tho from what ive heard previously. or you can opt for a rev-limited v10.

dunno still the greatest spectacle in motorsports tho and if they realize that they f'd up with the v8's im sure they will get right back into the 10.

all this does is increase development costs by making the teams redesign their cars and engines yet again. typically they evolve the cars over the years... the 2004 ferrari could be traced back to the 1998 ferrari, etc.

IMHO, this is dumb.

eventually, f1 will be dumbed down to the level of f3000.

Not yet.

They'd have to change the rules in the middle of the season or after each race to make it NASCAR. At least they're giving a heads-up 2 years in advance.

They've got the 2.4L V-8's revving to over 22K, and BAR have put that engine into the current car for trial uses. The FIA has proposed those changes; it remains to be seen how the manufacturers view these new rules....

i'm curious to see how those V8 motors perform. I've heard it sounds like a motorcycle.

true but they only rev to about 19000 while these new motors are said to be 22000+.

Anyway speedvision commentators said that BAR/Honda was testing their motor and sounded more like a motorcycle/sportbike motor than an F1 motor.
