Rally tires for the STi

What tires are people running for rallyX on the STi? Will 16 or 15 inch wrx rims fit? I noticed that most of the dirt tires are for 15's and 16's.

what year do you have? Nevermind, I looked on your profile. The WRX wheels will not fit on your car. However, if you are going to be doing rally-x, you can get by with all season tires, unless youre taking it seriously and are actually shooting for first place rather than just having fun. I used Avon Tech 550 M/S's last season and will be using RE92's this season

oh yeah, and what rally-x's are you looking at doing? SCCA seems to me lacking in the dates this year so far.

I am just looking to do it more so for fun while I get my feet wet with rally. I have been looking at SCCA. It seems they require the rally school beforehand and there isn’t any more schedule for this year.

SCCA doesnt require the school before you do rally-x....but they also dont have any rally-x's scheduled for this year so far

anyways, the Avons held up pretty well for me and are on the top of the list on tirerack.com's UHP All-Season tire guide

If you're serious about rally, you should move to Denver and hang with the CRC (Colorado Rally Crew).

We have the COG, CHCA series and CORE. Plus we're working on two new stage rallies for the state.

Thought I throw that out there.

BF Goodrich KDWS have a real stiff sidewall. Not the best traction but you don't need to worry about popping a bead.

I had also ran a set of snow tires w/ soft sidewall. I had no problem with them at the rallycross but I kept getting flats on the dirt roads on the way home

It seems like National class rules are going to change to "no snow tires/ .34" non-circ grooves." Again the KDWS or any all season would be fine.

To fit real rally tires on you need to change the front brakes, but try it a couple times then once you become addicted talk to "pcowan".

Stay sideways,
John
