Hey, I've been into rallying for a while, and love watching the WRC (and US rally, but i only just found it, and then they discontinued the channel on our satelite (wtf is wrong w/ them :cry: ) And everytime I watch it, they always allude to some past chamion, or car, or something, and it makes me realize how very little I know about the history of rallying.

So can anyone give me a link to a good site about rally history? - I tried searching, but get so many sights, most of which are confusing, irrelevant, or only a certain manufacturer and limited. I'm sure this is simply my suckage at google.

Awesome, its definently a good start =) and allows some new searching opportunities - now just some more in depth information about it all, as searching each name and sifting through the results doesn't quite work.

I especially like where they give the drivers overall wins and points, thats pretty cool, as is the nation's wins - too bad i'm not from finland =)

I'm not sure why, but I was under the impression that McRae won in a legacy (in '95). - I'm going to have to stop telling people that this was the case

No, McRae only won one event in a Legacy, the last event before it was retired

He won in 95 in an Impreza. 2nd or 3rd year rallying with the Impreza body.

Haha, i guess i should've known that though, as the pics of the 555 body r all impreza's - at least the ones I've seen. Still, for some reason i thought it was the legacy... i'm glad i've been edified

Soo, can anyone give me another link? - like more than just a list (albeit a very nice, very extensive list)?

How far back do you want to go? It's not on the internet, but right now I'm reading "The Mad Motorists - The Great Peking-Paris Race of '07" by Allen Andrews 1964. I've also got "Hard Driving - The 1908 Auto Race from New York to Paris" by Dermot Cole 1991. Either book will put in perspective how pampered WRC drivers are now. ;-)


Most of the really good stories from the recent past, 60s-80s have not been put down on paper or electronically (most likely to protect the guilty ;-) At Golden West '05 this July up in Yreka, while we were working on scoring well past midnight. Erick Hauge was giving Pete Soper first hand accounts of "Golden West 2000" in '80, Why the 'Former Co-drivers of Hendrick Blok club' has so many members, etc, etc. (Up until then I don't think Pete believed half of the stories I told him.) There's no real shortcut, you have to come to events and get the old timers talking.

It has been a couple of years since I have added anything to my Vintage
Rally site, but the files are still available for viewing. I did not renew
the VintageRally.com domain name in time (thought I had, but it never went
through), and the interest in Vintage Rallying in the U.S. seemed to be
waning so I let it drop. I do still have a couple of domain names pertinent
to the sport and may revive the site with a new look, but haven't the
interest in doing that right now.

In the meantime, I have come across a couple of things that may be of
interest to old timers... and maybe even a few newbies. Dave Cizmas met
someone who gave him a 1977 NARRA Rule Book and Newsletter. And I found a
1985 vintage Cibie catalog among my archives. I have scanned them and

I wish I could go to some events. Unfortunately I'm not very social. Also all the rallies are very far away, sure there are some that are only an 8ish hour drive, but, they always land on the wrong dates and its still a ways to drive. I really want to go to a rally though.

PS. your links are more US rallies from what I've had the chance to read. While I like this too, my original intent on this post was for WRC stuff, so dont stop w/ the other, but I would like more on WRC

but... i seem to be unable to get info about spectating from the site. It simply brings me to a page which has the top banner but nothing else =/

By the Laughlin rally do you mean the "Magellan Adventure Rally" in Laughlin Nevada December 9-10th? - That isn't really a rally is it?
