Nikon D90 Vs. Canon Rebel T1i (500D)?

Hmm, so I've been debating about getting another DSLR. I have a Nikon D40, and I've been itching for something better, something a bit more professional than a my toy camera.

I really wished Nikon had a cheaper D90 without the movie feature. I REALLY don't need it, and having it less. Most of my friends have Canons, and always trying to convince me to go Canon. I've always like the design and construction of Nikon over Canon, but knowing that I can borrow my friends lenses anything when I get a Canon, makes me want a Canon.

At the very beginning, I was going to pull the trigger on a D90 BUT, recently they've announced the Rebel T1i (weird name), and it's cheaper than the D90. Well, here's a review on BOTH of the cameras.

I love my D80, I'm no photographer my self so I don't really have any good experience In different cameras but I can tell you that I picked up the D80 + A 18-135 lens and it has really impressed me the level of clarity It can deliver, even with just a standerd lens.

The D90 Is impressive and my dad was actually thinking about picking one up but he couldn't really justify the price difference between the D80 and the D90 so hes just waiting for the price to drop in a year or so.
Either way I love my D80

what nikon lenses do you currently own? if you own a lot of nikon lenses you might as well just stick with nikon. if you are very comfortable with the d40, you should stick with nikon. reason i'm saying that is because i've shot quite a few nikon film cameras and when i jump to digital, everything felt the same. when i go from d200 to d700, i feel very familiar with the controls.

if you have a lot of friends that has canon lenses, then you might also consider you'll be able to borrow their lenses.

I only have the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm. My plans were to pick up a 50mm, and a 11-16mm from Tokina.

I'd grab a gently used D80/D200/D300 and run with it.

You've got 18-200mm covered - grab the 50mm 1.8 prime, and you should be rather set. Spend the extra on getting a decent body (D300)...

look in the photo thread I posted a link to a cheap online store for Cam stuff. I just ordered about $1500 in goodies from them. My dad has also ordered stuff. Its the cheapest I have found stuff.

B.T.W. Wolf Cam closed two stores by me this week. No notice or anything. So stay away from them... People are having to drive 40 miles to get there film and equipment back.

At the beginning, I thought about the D80 and D200. I would want the D300, but I won't be able to find one for 890 shipped like I can with a D90. The D90 is supposedly the same or better than the D300...

That's what I want Nikon to do, bring out a D90 without the video feature, so the camera can be cheaper!

I recently picked up a D90 about 2mnths ago and am loving it. I had a Canon P&S and loved it and was either going to pick up the Canon 50D or the Nikon D90. But the 50D was just out of my comfort spending zone at the time, so I went with the D90. I agree with JZ oo7 of sticking with Nikon since you already use to your Nikon D40 and already have a couple lens's. I had the exact feelings on the D90 and its video-recording. It's cool to have, but I don't really need it and I don't think I've even used it.

I just got back from taking the dogs up to Lake Chabot and got some great shots that blew me away. So I'm definitely happy with the D90.

Well coming from a Nikon background, I gotta say that you will not find finer lenses and equiptment than Nikon. Canon is the new cool ****, and I don't know if I agree.

<~~same here, came form nikon...went to Canon. Color on nikon is more solid, but it really depend on how u like it and your view of the photo. At some point I like Canon my self over nikon...so yea...

SG5: do go with the 40D if you getting canon, it somehow better then the 50D. for nikon, I rather u go with the D200 or D300...because I don't like SD card for my camera

i know too many ppl with nikon makes me want to buy a nikon because of familiarity and range of lens people would let you borrow that is just me, but thats how you should look at it.

Oh...well, I haven't had any problems on my D40 yet, so I don't mind the SD cards.

I'm actually thinking about the D200...because I'll end up saving roughly 300 bucks, but that also means I'll have an used camera, compare to a brand new and better D90, but it will also cost me 300 more.

Yeah, that's why it's still a toss up with the Canon, but then again, I really don't mind going to Nikon, since I'm used to the Nikon already, and I already have a couple lenses.

SG5 - if you have couple lens already, then just go with nikon...safe u time to sell your lens and buying new set of canon again...it sucks, since u won't get the same value.

but to tell you the truth, canon actually had a little wider range of lens you can choose from. I used to run with the D70s and couple lens, then I switch to canon...love it w/ no regret.

nikon does had better lens element and a little sharper image at some point, although, canon's lens is just short by a hair but with a better IS(VR) from what I experienced. ( then what really count is your view of the photo and knowledge of WB control...I am still learning, haha).

when u have time on Wednesday nite, come by cafe zen meet...let me know and I usually had my camera with me, and let u try it out (just don't drop it...haha)
