And I have no desire to do weddings either. I would much rather work with hot models for commercial stuff than *****y brides and bridesmaids (already have to do that with my other job).
Yeah bugs are the big thing in macro it seems

Pretty much I want to work with professionals

In a wedding if you miss the shot there is no next shot. There is no reshoot if you mess up like other things. This is why you can charge like that.

I do fine under pressure but why put myself there?

Pretty much that is the other thing. Screw that I would need a drink half way through haha

Portland was actually editorial

That's a really amazing shot. I suck at landscapes so I never try
I would charge three times that......... Just so I can go hire some one else to shoot it

I too suck at landscape

Ugh. So I sent in my HVL-F58 flash because it had a shakey connection. Sony send me a brand new flash unit which seems to be making NO connection :|

I already went Sony full-frame, so yes, I'm selling my lower end Sony stuff. The flash now seems to be behaving. I'll run it through its paces tomorrow with a more, um, "level head."

I probably won't get the a77. I'll see what 2012 brings.

I was just messing around in photoshop with a picture of my gf. I removed the bags under her eyes with the patch tool but it still looks a bit off. I also made a surface blur mask and worked with that to make the skin a bit softer. Too much? Should I use a lower opacity?

Doesn't look like it is too much softening IMHO. Just make sure to use a softer brush for stuff like that and keep it off of the lips, teeth, hair, eyes (including eyelashes), eyebrows, nostrils, and any jewelry or piercings. I also usually use a lower opacity of softening on the ears. I'll usually brush it on at 100%, and then go and remove it with a 30% opacity brush (leaving 70%).

Did you use the eye whitening action on this one? That is another one to make sure you use a soft brush, and adjust the opacity as needed.

Foundations of a Working Photographer with Zack Arias | creativeLIVE

LOVE this guy! I've watched a couple of his intro clips (for this class and the other one on creativelive.com) and read some of his blogs. Seems like a super cool, laid back but straight forward guy. I can't wait to buy the whole class!

I did the eye whitening in Lightroom. What I did was add in a surface blur with 20 radius and 200 threshold and then alt-click "Add Layer Mask" and then painted over the skin with a white brush with 10% opacity.

I would love to do one of those portrait classes. And probably one of the Photoshop CS5 classes too.

yes it looks a bit off but its close enough 99% of the time (at least for me). I do not use blur because you lose pores. I like dodge/burn, clone stamp and healing brush.

They're free to watch, but obviously cost a bit to rewatch. Not too much difference in pricing to a live workshop though.

Yeah some pro photographer here has an all day one-on-one workshop and it's about $650. He shoots Nikon too

I don't know that I'd drop $650 to work with one guy, unless I really like his philosophy. What I like about the Creative Live stuff is that I can watch the introduction and see if the instructors philosophy matches with mine. I really like what Zack has been saying. Others (Rick Sammon) I haven't really liked their styles, or like Barbie Cantrell (sp?) I like what she is saying, but it is a very specific course, so I'll have to get to it later.

I really hope they are able to expand their catalog in 2012, and I hope they can add more in the graphic design department rather than just application tutorial.
