As for the light modifiers you posted, I have the sto-fen, I have something similar to the mini soft box, and I prefer the Gary Fong Lightsphere over both.

Yes.
Silver will help reflect cooler light while indoors
Gold will help reflect warmer sun light when outdoors (although I've always used silver outdoors)
White will give you a soft fill
Black will let work as a flag to clock light spill without reflecting any of it
The diffuser will let you soften sunlight or a flash

Like Mike said, look into reflectors instead of adding light. I'd suggest picking up a good size 5-in-1 reflector (silver, gold, white, black, diffusion), or even two of them.
