Chaplin of Bellevue SUCKS!!
Well, I had an interesting experience today...
I stopped in at Chaplin to see if they had any STi's in stock, and to my amazment, they had 2. One was a java black with 30miles, the other was a wrblue which looked like it had just come off the truck.
Anyhow, I walk in to the dealership and as usual, (with any crappy small dealership), I wasn't greeted by anyone. So I decided to take the initiative and walked up to 2 guys sitting at a desk eating some Chinese food. I started asking about the STi's and one of the guys in a swivel chair turns around and gives me some info (ex: number of sti's available, how many miles, test drives, etc...etc...). I ask about the mark-up and he replies that it's $2000. He asked if I wanted to crunch some numbers, so I simply replied, "I'm still looking around at different dealers to see if I can get the white/gold color combo..." even before I could finish my sentence, he turns back around and starts eating again and continues his conversation with the other salesperson as if I had never come in!
I was infuriated and literally wanted to strangle his redneck scrawny ****, but I kept my cool and slyly remarked, "Thanks alot guys, I'll let people know how well I was treated here." With no response coming from the guys, I left.
Looks like I'll never be going there again! I'm still in shock at the utter disrespect these a-holes have for potential customers! I understand that the STi is a bit hard to find and there are people willing to pay the mark up for any combo they can get, but I think I deserved at least a , "we can look for you" or "sorry, but good luck with your search." Funny thing is, if they had the courtesy to treat me with respect, I might have bought from them!
I'd like to hear everyone's experiences with Chaplin, see if this was an oddity or if this is their typical attitude.

The only thing I can say is shop by phone and internet. Don't even bother going into the dealer until you go in to sign and pick it up.

I don't think anyone is willing to pay markup anymore unless they are a walkin. I have seen them on ebay with a buyitnow of less than MSRP. The hype for the STi being the best for its money is gone. Nobody is going to ay 40k for a 30k car unless they are a complete moron. I would go to ebay. You may have to pay a little more to get it shipped to you but I think for 2k markup paying 500 for shipping is not a bad deal. Just my thoughts.

I went into Chaplins 2.5 months ago, and had great luck, I traded in my 2k Dakota RT for a new 2003 WRX sedan, and I got what I wanted for my RT and I got what I asked for on the Wrx, also the salesman threw me the keys to the WRX and said drive it, without any questions about my name, etc... Heck I will go back to them again.

...sales people usually **** a brick when some one complains hard core, especially if they realize that some one is powerful and has a lot of money...

We had never had a problem with Chaplins. That were we bought both of our cars from. Go to Kelly Foust. He is the sales manager for Subaru! And tell him that Kari sent you and I am sure he will treat you right! Those other guys won't give you the time of day. I will mention this problem to him. So this won't happen again.

I walked off their lot 'cos the salesman all but ignored me - spent my dough elsewhere.
That was nothing compared to the arsehole of a salesman at Eastside in Kirkland though - I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!!!
Jury's still out on Chaplin's service department - they seem to be very organized when you actually arrive but I had to email back'n'forth several times just to set up an appointment in the first place and I noticed a dripped line of clear fluid on my hood (scoop to leading edge) after I got it home. Wiped off fine so no biggy this time but that was pretty damn sloppy IMHO. (Service was just the first oil & filter change)

Lol...I bought that black one about 5 days after you were there. They weren't rude to me but then again I told them that I was serious about buying right then and that I would not accept a markup. They immediately dropped the markup and let me have a testdrive. The next day I had to nearly cut some heads to get them to up my trade in by $2500 of their original offer. Then I walked out with the car. A pretty good experience all in all.
They remarked to me how many kids they are getting in there that just want to play with the STI's and aren't capable or interested in buying. I guess its their loss if they presume all customers are like that and let a potential sale slip by.
If you do go there ask for Janice. She is new and not really knowledgable about the car. But, if you are buying an STI you probably already did your research anyway and she was nice and didn't try to blow any smoke up my ***.

If you go into chaplins, and are "ready to buy" and they percieve you as serious. Then they are good to you.. If you go to the service dept, They are very good. BUT... if you encounter any "AFTERSALE" problems, or want to trade your car back in for something else.... Off come the kidd gloves, and BANG + Right in the kisser baby !!!!!
P.S. * They told me that the STI was selling for $35,000.00+tax and dealer fees. I had to grab onto the wall, I almost passed out.....
A good dealer here is walker subaru in renton, and I've had good service from carter, and jamie there..
