Hello guys, I'm a new subby owner and I'm trying to install a HKS blow off valve SSQV v2 to my WRX 2003. My car is basically stock, the only thing i have moded are the Helix down-pipe and the HKS catback Hi-Power Exhaust. I saw a lot of thread mentioned that HKS bov doesn't do any good to the stock engine and also will harm the engine and not recommending to install. But i really like the sound of the HKS bov. Can anyone give me a list of what i should mod before installing the HKS to avoid harming the engine? Any suggestion will be great.
please help~~
Thanks guys!!

100% atmospheric bov's such as the hks ssqv throw off your air-fuel ratio from what I understand. Had one on my car when I first bought it, but went back to and aftermarket recirculating one.

Ditch it. Something most of us go through when we first buy our Suabru. If you have the stock td04 turbo you don't need a bov. Like Aspenwhite03 said, it will do worse than good.

Yeah, what ^ and ^ and ^ and ^ and ^ said...although I may have added more ^s than necessary.
When I first got my car, I immediate purchased an Injen CAI and a Greddy RS BOV, like you on stock engine, minus XPT STG2 flash, exhaust, downpipe and megan racing uppipe. There's really no added benefit unless you're pushing more boost than stock with a larger turbo. But even with my larger turbo and bolt on mods, i think the stock BPV would've sufficed....but then again, with my larger turbo I can say BOV is alright!
Oh, if you absolutely must...ditch the HKS and get one that doesn't sound like a weak bird chirp...get something like a GReddy...sounds better than chirps.

An atmospheric valve will never run correctly on a MAF based system (except for FMIC setups with blow-through MAF's) because they are venting air that has been metered. Whenever the BOV opens, it causes a rich condition. For most people its not a huge deal and they just end up with an occasional backfire. For those who drive their cars around corners, however, the BOV will quickly become an annoyance when you're trying to modulate the throttle through a turn. As you modulate, the BOV will be repeatedly opening/closing and will cause a significant hesitation every time. This makes it almost impossible to smoothly modulate power.
