Pardon me, i meant Lancer Evo 7s.
Those are also quite popular, despite Mitsubishi's limited production run. Took a picture of one parked outside my window...

And to the person who claimed that Taiwan doesn't get the WRX... you're wrong!
I've seen a good deal of mid 90s WRXs crusing around Taipei on a regular basis, and i i distinctly remember reading about the Taiwanese launch of the newer style WRX look about a year ago.

I went to Taiwan for High School and Middle School, (7 years. www.pbase.com/para_roy) and i'll tell you straight up: Taiwanese Taxi Drivers are insane.
Because of a 100% tax on imported cars, people who buy cars either have ford peices of crap (like the "festiva" i don't think they even have those here...), or pretty daym nice cars.
And taxi drivers? ANY foreigner who's been to Taiwan has at least one crazy taxi story, be it the car, or the trip.
The first time i ever rode in a Mercedes Benz was when i got into a Taxi... Didn't notice it at first, but i was actually riding in a S Class 500!!! I asked the driver why the hell he was a Taxi driver in a 100,000 dollar car, and he told me his sad, sad story. He used to be a management person, and worked for TSMC (Taiwan Semi Conductor Company, world's largest IC foundry, and semi conductor producer). He was sent to China a few years ago, to train the former communists there on how to make a capitalist company work. He did this very well, so well that he got fired, because the people he trained could do his job for 1/10th his payroll... He lost everything, everything except for his beloved Benz...
The "average" Taxi in Taiwan is a Nissan Cefiro, known here as a 30,000 dollar Infiniti I30. Compared to American cabs... Over there it's sort of a "poor man's luxury car", as it's produced locally, so it's available without the outrageous tax.
You thougt drivers were crazy in New York? Probably never been to taiwan... even on relatively crude overpasses, and in crowded scenarios, Taxi drivers love pushing their cars past 140-150 km/h... and this is in one hella crowded city. Emergency lanes are never used only for emergencies, and traffic laws are "optional". If there isn't a copper, you can do u-turns anywhere! I've been scared for my life many a time in a Taxi, lol
And the coppers themselves are kinda scary... but their rides are hella impressive. The highway patrol went from BMW 3 series in the mid 90s, to the Benz E class in 2000, and now they have changed to Lancer Evo 8s.
Also, Taiwan leads the world in Traffic Tickets!
"Traffic fines have become an important financial source for city and county governments. The Taipei City Government received the largest amount - NT$1.62 billion - in traffic fines last year"
And that's JUST Taipei City. Anyway, Taiwan's a cool place to go, the nightlife is insane, the girls are hot, and the legal drinking age is 18 (technically... I saw 8 graders at the club on my graduation night), and the cars are nice. I regularly see super cars on the streets, almost more often than in Beverly Hills.

there's no GC8 WRX in taiwan, it's all 2.0GT, which sports a 2.0 boxer with turbo, but only 214 horses.
and there is evo in taiwan, but a very few, those are the rich ***** who somehow get the connection to make it legal.
the one in the pic is a common Taiwan made lancer with evo replica body kit.
the wing and bumper suppose to be a evo5 or 6, which has the wider fender, but this car doesn't have it. and other bit that you can easily tell it not an evo.
and highway patrols car are a damn joke. all they have is BMW 520i (yes 2liter), or E220.
any random bad guy in a GC8 2.0GT would eat those patrols in seconds

GASP!
Oh my gosh, i didn't notice the lack of fender flares until you pointed them out. Gosh, i feel like such a dummy, but i should of known. Haha, Taipei is one of the "knock-off/replica" capitals of the world, and is still on the American Government's "special list" concerning patent and copyright enforcement
But about the copper's rides, i've seen what they pack under the hood, and these people aren't stupid. Aftermarket blowers and performance parts to milk as much out of the "free" government supplied veichles are common. Cops and Robbers all go to the same tuning shops in Taiwan, lol! How do i know this? I used to be a translator for "Guarder/Intruder Shop", a big supplier and producer of knock off tactical gear for the airsoft and replica BB gun market. I met a lot of 1st line tactical responders (Taiwan's "Lightning SWAT" team)through my job, as well as ho hum traffic and patrol types.
Anyway, if i was back in Taipei right now, i'd probably avoid getting a car, with all the recklessness that happens on a daily basis. Seen a fair share of human blood on asphalt... and the bus/monorail system works great

TAS? Dang, I haven't heard that name since I broke up with my TAS girlfriend
Anyway, I never been to Taipei yet, but I've been to Hong Kong many times and let me tell you about the mods there.
The mods there are as silly as the ricer mods here. Though they don't add a thousand stickers and pop a huge picnic table on the back of their rides, they do other things that are just as silly.
I've never seen so many lancers with huge mud guards, plastic visors, dashboard ornaments, etc.
Anyway, asides from that, I love Hong Kong
Poki!
