Hey everyone,
Finally went Stage II this past weekend.
I went with MadDad for my setup - their new catted bellmouth DP (where the cat is CARB certified, but the
DP itself isn't....
) and the dual tip Whisper.
Rich over at MadDad is super awesome at getting stuff done (even though it took a few extra weeks to
get out my whisper due to some logistical problems on his side). Things worked out great in the end!
Props also to Jeremy at Crucial for making such awesome Cu Seal gaskets! Those things rock!
Here are some pics -
I was actually planning on doing the gutted uppipe mod - I even had a gutted one all cleaned out and ready to go,
but unfortunately, I started to round out one of the motor mount nuts, so I decided to just say f*ck it and leave
the stocker in. Guess that means that I'll be selling the gutted uppipe soon.
Oh, about the downpipe - there are two Wideband O2 sensor bungs there - I put the O2 sensor back into its
"normal" position and plugged the upper bung up with a m18 x 1.5 oil drain plug bolt
(I believe it's like a 1990 toyota cressida v6 oil drain plug??)
The first time I ran after reflashing to Cobb AP stage II, I got smoke coming out of the region of the turbo!!
Scared the cr@p out of me...
I retightened the downpipe bolts and since then, it's been fine. Tad hot in the engine bay, but overall still bearable.
No more smoke - I wonder if the smoke was PB Blaster or something burning off??? I'm pretty sure I didn't have an
exhaust leak cause the volume hasn't really changed at all..
In any case, I cut the stock turbo heat shield and stuck it back in there. I plan to put an additional
SPT heat shield over the stocker in order to keep heat soak down.
Initial impressions:
Holy cr@p talk about deep throaty growl!!! This thing sounds awesome! :RockOn - not mine:
OK, a tad on the loud side - quite a bit louder than I originally thought it would be, but it's actually
quite nice. Just have to remember to lay off the throttle whenever the popo is around.
At idle, it's actually not quite so bad.... at WOT, it's like a pissed off guard dog.
I've also noticed that when the turbo spools you can hear it much better, but it sounds kinda like
a cricket chirping... The combination is kinda weird and a tad annoying though. I'm contemplating putting maybe some sort of
in-line resonator into the midpipe, but that will be for another day.
The clearance of the dual tips is near perfect!! Great worksmanship!!!
Onto the pics!

that was weird... let me try this again.
The post says that the files are attached and they meet the size requirements - worked last night when I posted them, but now I can't see them either

and the most important pic of all - what it looks like underneath - this is what the popo will see when they take a look. Kinda almost looks like a stock cat, right?
