Those brakes are borderline scary. I have to check the mirrors before I get on them because they really stop right now.
|
Are they just touchy or you actually stop faster? I'd think the weakest link in the braking procedure would be the tires. You're more likely to lock up the brakes than run out of braking power. :P
Might not be thinking hard enough about it though. |
Tires are every bit as important. Crappy tires will be overwhelmed by good brakes. I had to get used to how well they stop and now they just feel really good. Can't say for sure they stop sooner than the brembos with the same pads, but they feel great.
|
Oh ok. It's just interesting to me as people say the price difference between STI and WRX is in the Brembo's, diff's and tranny. But then they go and cut out the brembo's with new calipers and disks. Never understood why it was a good modification :P

I didn't put them on, they came on the car. It is more of a track setup than street, but he didn't want to take them off to sell it. IMO, they're beefier both front and rear, but the monster 2 piece rotors are one of the things where you would benefit on the track, both because they're lighter and they're larger.

Been a while since I've done anything to this car, but then I don't need to do much to it. Mann called and said he had a few bits left over from JPM that he wanted to get rid of.

I like the center console top.
Gunna run flexfuel? |
No flex, just 91. Putting the rest of the Miltek parts back on, but full 3 tunes for each S, # and I.

Cobb doesn't fully cover the DP.
Waiting on the numbers/curves, but I can definitely say he eliminated the initial lag and it pulls harder and smoother everywhere. It feels like a different car. Bill is a great guy. LOL. Now "I" feels even slower than S and #. I was joking with him and said it is like Clarkson (#) Hammond (S) and May (I granny). S feels like # used to and # is essentially a similar map so it feels the same only has more boost everywhere. |
Found a heat shield that fully covers?

No, that's the Cobb. Mann Eng. now sells Cobb products so I went with something he could get quick. I hadn't really thought about it, but it was easier to put it on while the DP was off with this car compared to the previous WRX and FXT. It was kind of a last minute thing to make it less obvious with the hood up. Oh, and Mann's new toy. '17 Series yellow and another FRS was there for some work :) |
love the yellow.
Ya ive always wanted to find a shield that covers more of the DP... for the just in case times. When I had the stock turbo, I had a turbo chimney on it, covered pretty decent and brought a lot of heat out of the engine bay. I dont think, but havnt tried to see for sure yet, it will fit over the 1.5 dom. |
Got it back from the shop. Not happy to have needed to have it painted due to that lady hitting it, but it looks good again. Will post some new pics sooner or later.
Next up will be new higher rate springs for the rear and a rebuild of the ASTs. The ASTs are nearly 6 years old and though they're not leaking, Mann said might as well do it while they're out. |
The "new" wagon
