The new DD

2011. Yesterday it had about 25 miles on this motor. Today a few more lol. Still a lot of things to learn about it.

Not such a huge project since it has a lot done to it already. I'll get around to a list, but basically it was a Mann Engineering Type 25 except now it has the original motor back in it. It will be a little while while breaking it in. Stuff already waiting to go back on after that (pulled so it could be smogged).

snap congrats!

04GG 07-15-2016 10:47 AM

What came on it from Mann:

Mann Engineering Inverted Coilovers by AST
Milltek Catted Turboback with Titanium Trim Tips
Greddy Radiator
Samco Sport Radiator Hose
Front and Rear Whiteline Swaybars
Subframe Insert Bushings
Heavy Duty Steering Rack Bushings
AP Racing 6Piston Front Brake Kit
AP Racing 4Piston Rear Brake Kit
Speedline Type 2120 Wheels
Greddy Infometer Touch
Killer B oil pickup
Cosworth timing belt guide
Custom Clear Bra full wrap

STI Front Lower Lip
Subaru Navigation
Original rims & tires
All weather floor mats
original floor mats
cargo liner

I already picked up some Weather Tech liners from classifies here :) URs will go on order soon. Aside from that, only plan is to put the turboback back on and tune after break in.

So MANN pulled OEM motor, put a built one in, then out OEM back in and sold it?

JourdanWithaU 07-15-2016 12:11 PM

Something like that...

I'm still in shock.
So MANN pulled OEM motor, put a built one in, then out OEM back in and sold it?
Basically. Chassis has 4900 mi. which were on the Cosworth motor + custom Garrett turbo, which is what is in the Type 25. He would normally put the car back to stock completely and sell it either back to the dealer or private, but that's labor and time so we worked it out so I could get the original motor in it and what you see. If I wanted to keep it the way it was, it would have cost a lot more. I drove it like that....wow :D After a few years as a showcase car, they need to build a new one with the latest stuff on it, so they sell the "old" one. He currently has a Launch Edition and I believe another 2015 that they're working on.

Found a bunch of green bubble gum all along the drivers side starting at the front tire... so got that all off and waxed it. URs are coming this week. Also found out my reverse lights don't work and apparently it is a known issue?

Interesting issue to have haha

Had to make an appointment with Subaru on the reverse lights. Mann looked at it and everything checked out so they don't know what's going on. And now have Takata airbag recall on it as well.

On a positive front, ALMOST broken in...been putting the "unnecessary" miles on it to get there. Sat a little grape action off Skyline Sat

pingupenguins 10-05-2016 10:10 PM

Very nice. How are the Ap racing brakes over the Brembos?

04GG 10-06-2016 01:07 PM

Those brakes are borderline scary. I have to check the mirrors before I get on them because they really stop right now.

pingupenguins 10-06-2016 02:16 PM

Are they just touchy or you actually stop faster? I'd think the weakest link in the braking procedure would be the tires. You're more likely to lock up the brakes than run out of braking power. :P

Might not be thinking hard enough about it though.

04GG 10-06-2016 02:38 PM

Tires are every bit as important. Crappy tires will be overwhelmed by good brakes. I had to get used to how well they stop and now they just feel really good. Can't say for sure they stop sooner than the brembos with the same pads, but they feel great.

pingupenguins 10-06-2016 02:45 PM

Oh ok. It's just interesting to me as people say the price difference between STI and WRX is in the Brembo's, diff's and tranny. But then they go and cut out the brembo's with new calipers and disks. Never understood why it was a good modification :P

04GG 10-07-2016 09:37 AM

I didn't put them on, they came on the car. It is more of a track setup than street, but he didn't want to take them off to sell it. IMO, they're beefier both front and rear, but the monster 2 piece rotors are one of the things where you would benefit on the track, both because they're lighter and they're larger.

Been a while since I've done anything to this car, but then I don't need to do much to it. Mann called and said he had a few bits left over from JPM that he wanted to get rid of.

I like the center console top.

Gunna run flexfuel?

04GG 02-24-2017 11:22 AM

No flex, just 91. Putting the rest of the Miltek parts back on, but full 3 tunes for each S, # and I.

stupidchicken03 02-24-2017 11:26 AM

Cobb doesn't fully cover the DP.

Waiting on the numbers/curves, but I can definitely say he eliminated the initial lag and it pulls harder and smoother everywhere. It feels like a different car. Bill is a great guy. LOL. Now "I" feels even slower than S and #. I was joking with him and said it is like Clarkson (#) Hammond (S) and May (I granny). S feels like # used to and # is essentially a similar map so it feels the same only has more boost everywhere.
Found a heat shield that fully covers?
No, that's the Cobb. Mann Eng. now sells Cobb products so I went with something he could get quick. I hadn't really thought about it, but it was easier to put it on while the DP was off with this car compared to the previous WRX and FXT. It was kind of a last minute thing to make it less obvious with the hood up.

Oh, and Mann's new toy. '17 Series yellow

love the yellow.

Ya ive always wanted to find a shield that covers more of the DP... for the just in case times. When I had the stock turbo, I had a turbo chimney on it, covered pretty decent and brought a lot of heat out of the engine bay. I dont think, but havnt tried to see for sure yet, it will fit over the 1.5 dom.

04GG 06-26-2018 07:30 AM

Got it back from the shop. Not happy to have needed to have it painted due to that lady hitting it, but it looks good again. Will post some new pics sooner or later.

Next up will be new higher rate springs for the rear and a rebuild of the ASTs. The ASTs are nearly 6 years old and though they're not leaking, Mann said might as well do it while they're out.

04GG 05-23-2019 08:42 AM

Well it is going to the dealer this weekend for possible ringland issue. I am getting some puffs of smoke. No obvious issues and compression and leakdown by AA did not reveal a definitive issue. It is still under warranty so taking it to dealer for a look now.

stupidchicken03 05-23-2019 11:15 AM

Might as well!
