Great car choice. However, Subaru has never done "red" well -- that is far too much pink in that red. Also, you seem to have a larger-than-usual hood gap above the grille. Go look at another one and see if that gap is normal or a bit large.
Wait about 2 months and then wax it with really good-quality stuff (Mothers FX series or another synthetic liquid wax) and keep it waxed on a 4 to 6 month schedule. Red paint is notorious for fading over time.

yeah and i actually wax my rsx once a month and polish every 3-6 months and have a mountain of professional and consumer products. so paint care is not an issue here

plans for the wrx though, is a wrx spoiler, sti v-limited front lip, vishnu v280 , HKS exhaust, downpipe, volk rims, and probably hks coilovers (any other suggestions? i don't know too much about wrx's yet)

DO NOT wax the car for at least 3 to 5 months, perhaps not the first year. I have a friend who details cars for a living, and he says the lowest layers of paint take a long, long time to cure and dry, and the clearcoat won't develop damage for at least a year. Just be super-gentle with it and treat it like fine china (Jaguar owners are advised to lightly spray and "sheet" the car only with filtered water, no soap, no touching the car!) until you see the kind of wear that needs extra attention.

if you add in the time it takes from painting the car, shipping it to the dealership, getting it ready for the lot, and selling it, its ok to wax the paint once you buy it. Be very careful on it though. The best thing is to wax it every 3 months or so for the first year to let the paint settle, but you still want the wax to last. My reccomendation is to by the paint sealant that will last 6 months so you dont have to mess with the paint that much.
Also, unless you like swirls, dont use a drive through wash. They are horrible for leaving swirl marks on your car.

Go ahead and polish/wax it. The paint is already cured by the time its at the dealer. I like http://autopia.org for detailing info. It helps me tons.
Congrats to your girl on the WRX!
