I put on my new rotors and painted calipers! {before/after pic}
...I know, I'm lame... I get excited about stupid stuff, and I am particularly proud of what I've done here:
what was done: (on my 98 outback sport)
-drilled/slotted ['Orbit' brand] zinc-plated rotors
-EBC greenstuff pads
-painted calipers [satin black spray-good up to 900 F]
BTW-I did the brake lines with the suspension a few months ago
Notables:
Needed the 8mm bolt method to get the rotor off- and I'd recommend not wasting your time trying to bang it off if it doesn't come off easily.
I had some noise and smoke at first when breaking in the pads, but that has gone away- and the zinc plating where the pad touches is almost worn off... no problems yet
I did about 5-6 coats of paint on the caliper and bracket- painted the bracket while removed and the caliper with the brake line attached (lots of masking and dropcloths recommended)
Here is the before and after: (sorry they're different sides)
the pic doesn't do the paint justice- It turned out looking great
I'll post a pic of them with the wheel on tomorrow

I had to choose something... I hadn't read anything about EBC's being bad, on the packaging it says they do virtually ZERO damage to the rotors.
I got the greenstuff, which is a composite pad (not totally race compound), and they have a higher coeff. of friction than any other I've seen. By chance, are you referring to the red, yellow. or blue stuff pads (as being damaging to the rotor)?
Can anyone elaborate on why I should not have gotten these pads, and which ones I should have gotten. I would like to understand, but I haven't heard any reasons... thanks for the feedback

I was under the impression that the combination of the slotted rotors/composite pads would result in the pads going pretty quickly, with not much wear to the rotor (due to softer pads)
Are these pads known to groove, warp, or otherwise damage rotors quickly?
If so, is it bad enough to where I should consider swapping them out again?
I wouldn't mind the labor, especially if it was crucial enough that I'd be saving my new rotors.
PLease tell me what you all think.

I don't know from personal experience, but I've only heard bad things about ebc's regardless of car, rotor, or green/red/blue. KVR stuff is usually pretty good, Stillen is supposed to be good. . . other than that you'd have to ask around and see what other people are using

Well, now that I searched this forum, I've read alot on this subject...
It seems that the only people that had rotor damage were WRX drivers.
I have a GF8 wagon, and my rotors are onlt 10.7". I'm thinking that the extra curb weight (and torque due to larger rotors) cause the WRX brakes to get much hotter.
I'm still not sure about all of this... I realize many people have had problems- and that does make me wary. But, I did pay good $$$ for these pads, and would like to at least give em a chance.
Again, if any of you were in my position, would you put the stock (or ones that were on there before-lotsa meat left) pads back on? Would you shop for different high-performance pads?

i owuld get some carbotech bobcats, i have also heard bad news about the EBC also known as chewing up the rotors really fast....
I have used hawk hp + and i love em, but if i could use the carbotechs i would use em, but they do not make the carbotechs for wilwood dynalites...

Will someone address my questions, please? I appreciate all of the input, but what would you do if you were in my position (already installed EBC's on new rotors) - if you found out they were damaging after installing them (as I have now read about) would you go back to stock, or give 'em a try anyway?
BTW, what would be the first signs of the rotors being "torn up," as you said... vibration when braking? visible grooves in the rotors?
thanks again

Personally, I'd get new pads, but I wouldnt want to go back to stock, I've been meaning to try the Stillen Metal Matrix pads (semi-metallic)
