I am sick of hearing “why don’t you just save your money and buy a new car”
Here’s the deal.
I have a 2000 2.5rs coupe with 118,000 miles
It was used and abused for the first 3 years of me owning it.
I finally got serious about turning it into what I want it to be.
I gutted the interior to install a new stereo, do a bunch of fiberglass speaker enclosure work, installing a 6 point cage, and install racing seats that are covered to match my rear seats.

All the parents, girlfriend, and co-workers see is the beat up run down little red car with no interior and bald tires.
Yes it has seen better days.

What I am seeing is a paid off car, plenty of new bits and ideas that are well within my mechanical capabilities. Oh and did I mention the STI short block, and a full 2.5rs SOHC engine (in transit from new jersey); that I plan on combining along with a pieced together td06super16g turbo system?
Here are pics of the bits just to give you all an idea of what im working with.

I guess im just bumming out that no one seems to understand that I can have a car that I am very happy with, is unique, paid off, and will be just as reliable as a brand new car.
Any one else running into this block?

Take consolation in the fact that your car is not the now-common MY02 through MY06 GD chassis, but the earlier chassis that is still so much coveted as far as body style goes.

speaking of wire.
After some nasty emails to the people at perfect power they finaly got me a good diagram for the SMT6 install in a SOHC 2.5 .
I think I will install the SMT6 and tune it after I put in the hybrid engine, but before I turbo it. That way I can get a decent base line for the fuel system upgrades and such.
Engine should arrive tomorrow, and I will be going off on it with some powder coat.... Thats about all I can do for now untill cash starts roling in.

I got some candy red powder coat in yesterday and I was board and felt like getting something accomplished today...

I admit it doesn’t exactly make great strides toward the end goal but hell, it makes me feel a bit more encouraged to tackle the rest of it.

I know how you feel. I've looked at modding my car and it isn't cheap. So far... I've been lucky to find some really cheap parts and stuff.
Like winglesswonders said... doesn't matter what others think, as long as you are happy. Anybody can buy a nice, brand new car, but where is the fun in that. Personally, it is more of journey. The fun times, the miserable times, the people you meet along the way, etc.
