Curbs are Bad
Curbs, Curbs, Curbs...
I was driving with two friends in my 2002 Black WRX sedan (3 days after buying my WRX) and was powersliding through a small backroads intersection into a development and slid through some gravel, smacking my front left wheel on the curb and then my rear left side followed suit a spit second later. We got out and saw that I mangled my front left rim and broke the rotor. We attempted to jack up the car, throw on the donut tire and hike it back home the 2-3 miles.
We didn't get more than 100 feet and I heard the loudest grinding noise I have ever heard coming from my WRX. We had ruined the wheel bearings and weren't going anywhere. So I called for a flatbed tow, and $4300 later in insurance, I have a whole brand new left side to my car, new struts, new rotors, new rims, new axles, new control arms, the works.
My local dealer is one of the best Subie dealers in all of OH and had it fixed in 1 1/2 days. They do all Prodrive, Scooby Sport, and most STI upgrades, and even have cars outsourced to them from other OH dealers for work. I could not fathom the price of the cost of those repairs when all I could visually see was damage to two wheels! (No body damage whatsoever).
Not a fun week, but I'm out cruising once again, with a brand new suspension on the left side! (I have 6500 miles now) Curbs and powerslides are off my to-do list for a while now!
